My Education and Professional Background
I taught elementary and middle school for ten years in the Bordentown, Glendale, and Chandler school districts and was Dean of Students for one year. I graduated from Kean University where I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary/Middle School Education (K-8). I also earned my master's degree in Reading and Literacy (K-8) from Walden University and hold a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe in the education of the whole child because when students' social-emotional needs are met, the academics follow. The goal of every school should be to support children, meet their needs, and ignite a passion for learning and exploration. Through discovery of their interests, abilities, and learning styles, students will feel successful and excel cognitively and social-emotionally. Every child should feel valued and connected to the school through meaningful relationships to both faculty and other students. My mission as Assistant Principal is to support the staff, students, and families while providing a positive learning environment for all learners to grow and develop. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my approach to counseling, as well as to helping students succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. As a person-centered counselor, it is of upmost importance to me to build positive and trusting relationships with students. Hello! Please allow me to introduce myself. I was raised in a teaching family in my native state of Washington. In 1987 I graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. I was a professional flutist for several years while I began raising a family. Since that time, I have mothered four permanent and sixteen foster children.
My Education and Professional Background
Throughout the years I spent countless hours in schools as a volunteer, aide, and substitute teacher before I became a teacher in 2009. I worked with the emotionally disabled children for several years at Patterson before becoming a 1st-grade CTA teacher here. I transitioned to Classic Kindergarten in 2021. I have extensive experience with children who have special needs. My children have experienced physical disabilities (arthritis, dwarfism, heart problems), learning disabilities (brain injury), visual impairment (cortical blindness), mental illness, health impairments, and emotional disabilities. I am comfortable with medical issues because of years of living in and out of hospitals. I have also had the challenging privilege of raising an accelerated learner.

I regard each child as an individual with different interests and abilities. My favorite thing to do is to figure out what makes a child tick and then see how far they can go with help.

I worked with the emotionally disabled children for several years at Patterson before becoming a 1st-grade CTA teacher here. I transitioned to Classic Kindergarten in 2021. I have extensive experience with children who have special needs. My children have experienced physical disabilities (arthritis, dwarfism, heart problems), learning disabilities (brain injury), visual impairment (cortical blindness), mental illness, health impairments, and emotional disabilities. I am comfortable with medical issues because of years of living in and out of hospitals. I have also had the challenging privilege of raising an accelerated learner.

I regard each child as an individual with different interests and abilities. My favorite thing to do is to figure out what makes a child tick and then see how far they can go with help.

I then stayed home with my children for the next 6 years. When my youngest child began first grade I came back to teaching and began teaching 1st grade in 2005. In 2008 I was fortunate enough to become a 1st grade teacher at Patterson and helped open the school. In 2015 I moved up to second grade. I am so excited I did because I LOVE second grade!

I grew up on a farm in Iowa where we had pigs, horses, goats, chickens, cows, cats, dogs, and turkeys at one time or another. I learned to drive on a tractor and was a pro at pulling the manure spreader. Sometimes I miss the smell of hay, but I sure don't miss the smell of the hog house! My husband, Mike, works for a finance company as well as the NFL. Tyler graduated from ASU and is now teaching Algebra & Geometry at Casteel High School. Ethan is attending ASU where he is studying social work.

My Education and Professional Background
I attended Arizona State University and received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2008. Shortly after I received my Masters degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in 2010. In 2017, I earned my second Masters in STEM Leadership. I have been teaching at Patterson since the school opened in 2008, so this is my second home. I have taught third, fourth, and now technology.

My goal as an educator is to challenge every student to go beyond where they thought possible. I want foster relationships with the students and families because when we work togther we provide the best education for each child.

Most of the youth I worked with hadn't been to school in years, and many couldn't read. I earned my teacher certification and began teaching in CUSD in 2006, and finished my Master of Education degree at ASU in 2008. My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from Arizona State University in 2005 and am a huge Sun Devils fan! I have been teaching 5th grade since 2009 and I have been at Patterson Elementary since 2012. My first five years of teaching were down in Maricopa at Santa Cruz Elementary School. By the end of each school year, my 5th graders are not only my students, but they become my family! I truly love this age and love seeing them blossom and grow throughout the year.

I believe that each and every child can be successful, and I know that my role as a teacher plays a big part in this. Every child brings a different set of abilities, life experiences, and dreams to school with them each and every day. We are able to experience music in so many ways! While I've taken many graduate courses to continue my learning, I've found one type of class that really enhances my teaching. The Orff Process, which is a method of teaching music to children, has transformed my classroom. By using the Orff Process, students can immediately take part in music activities by moving creatively, playing instruments, and singing. Every child is able to experience the joy of music right away!

I believe that every child is capable of singing and enjoying music. I believe every child can read, sing, play, move and create music. We start at a simple level by exploring all kinds of musical experiences and build our way to reading, writing and creating music. It feeds the soul and allows us to see and feel more of the beauty in the world. Beyond music's inherent points, it is all around us in our lives. We are surrounded by it in our TV shows, movies, ipods, holidays, classrooms, and more. We are huge Sun Devil Men's Basketball fans and are season ticket holders. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing golf.

I received my BA in Elementary Education from Arizona State University and received my MA in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. My career began with 5th grade in the Apache Junction School District. I was there for two years until I switched to Mesa Public Schools. I taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades in Mesa for 17 yrs. For 6 years I was at Franklin East Elementary, which is one of Mesa’s choice schools and is a back to basics traditional school. I have been a grade level team lead, student council adviser, spelling bee coordinator, and yearbook sponsor. Throughout my career, I have been trained in Spalding, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), and PBIS (Positive Behavior and Instructional Systems). I have a lot of experience with technology and have trained teachers to use technology.

For 6 years I was at Franklin East Elementary, which is one of Mesa’s choice schools and is a back to basics traditional school. I have been a grade level team lead, student council adviser, spelling bee coordinator, and yearbook sponsor. Throughout my career, I have been trained in Spalding, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), and PBIS (Positive Behavior and Instructional Systems). I have a lot of experience with technology and have trained teachers to use technology.

I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of Arizona in 2013 and my master’s degree in 2017 at Northern Arizona University. I also have a teaching endorsement in gifted education. I have previously taught for six years in the Cartwright School District. In Cartwright, I spent five years teaching in a gifted cluster fourth grade classroom and one year in a fifth grade gifted classroom. I am excited to begin my seventh year of teaching!
My Educational Philosophy
Students in my classroom are encouraged to learn from their mistakes, take risks, and have a growth mindset. I also help students develop collaboration skills so that they are able to successfully work with their peers. My goal is to create a safe and respectful environment in which students are able to reach their full potential.

I'm looking forward to seeing all my superstars' shiny faces and making awesome memories while we ride the learning roller coaster together! It's going to be a super adventure! A few bits and bobbles about me... I moved to sunny Arizona from California in 2005 and, yes, I love the heat! I have a furry "son" named Sirius who's the sweetest thing to ever walk on four paws. I love unicorns and the GB Packers!
My Education and Professional Background
I went to school in California where I got my degree in Psychology. This will be my 17th year in education. I have a lot of experience with Positive Behavior Intervention Support systems, Applied Behavior Analysis, socialemotional learning, and mindfulness. Regardless of our diverse backgrounds, I believe these are all areas from which we can benefit.
My Educational Philosophy
Though I have been teaching for years, I still consider myself a student. We all have the opportunity to learn and grow each day, and I am thankful for that gift. I tell my students often that ours is a relationship of reciprocity, and they teach me just as much as I teach them. When given the proper tools, everyone can build something magical! I'm so excited for what we will build together this year!

I have an Arizona Music Endorsement, am Tribes trained, and have served as President of the Arizona Orff Association: a non-profit organization that provides professional development workshops for music teachers in the Orff Process. I have been teaching elementary music since 2006 and am proud to be a Chandler teacher.
