This is the first year where students have an opportunity to play a musical instrument in band or orchestra. If they choose not to participate in band or orchestra, then they will be a part of our general music program. For these special classes, as well as library time and technology classes, Patterson follows a 6-day rotation, which does not coordinate with a regular Monday - Friday schedule. We start school this year on Wednesday, July 21, which is Day 2. Thursday will be Day 3; Friday will be Day 4; next Monday will be Day 5; Tuesday will be Day 6 and Wednesday will be Day 1. Your child will receive a calendar that has these days listed. It is important for the students to know which "Day" it is so the correct shoes can be worn for PE and an instrument can be brought to school when there is band or orchestra.Library and Technology LabScheduled library and Technology Lab time each occurs once during a 6-day schedule. Open library checkout is available each day.Economy System5th Graders participate in our Classroom Economy System. Citizenship
Student behavior is a choice. Rewards are sometimes used as an incentive for good behavior. Loss of privileges and/or notes home are used for bad choices. My goal is to help your child make good choices and learn the benefits from those decisions. I am also here to help your child learn from his/her bad decisions and choices so that repetition of these do not impede his/her learning.Communication (Teacher to parent and parent to teacher)The agenda is a great way for you to see what your child does in school on a daily basis. If you have a quick question or comment, please feel free to write in the space provided on the agenda and I will get back to you. You can also email me at kross.julie@cusd80.com or call me at 224-3668.Your child should be bringing home a blue folder every day for Teacher/Parent Communication. Please check this daily for any information that we need you to see. Anything your child needs to turn back in to school should also be put in this folder.Parent/Teacher CommunicationA 5th grade Classic newsletter will be emailed home every 2 weeks. This will include upcoming events and classroom news.Daily*Parent review agenda.
