• Important Information

    ABSENCES
If your student is absent unexpectedly, we will prepare his/her makeup work from the day and send it home on the day of his/her return. We do not always send home everything that was missed because some activities are done during class.  Please email or call me for an extended absence so that I can make special work arrangements.

    BACKPACKS & BINDERS
Please make sure that your child comes to school with a backpack each day. Your child's 3rd Grade Binder should also go home each night and return the next day.

    BIRTHDAYS
Birthdays are still very special for 3rd graders! Students may bring in STORE BOUGHT treats on their special day.Unfortunately, we cannot allow any homemade treats to be brought in at any time per district policy. Please let us know in advance if you plan to participate, so we can plan accordingly for the celebration. If your child has a summer birthday, we would be more than happy to celebrate him/her on an alternate date at the end of the school year in the month of May. If your child has special dietary needs, you may leave a supply of special treats for me to keep on hand so that when treats are handed out, your child can choose one from the supply that you provided expressly for that purpose. Thank you for your cooperation.

    BOOK ORDERS
I will be sending home book orders periodically throughout the year. There will be more information on how to order attached to them. Book orders are a great way to get quality, grade level appropriate books at low prices and keep your student interested in reading. They are all optional, so you may choose when to purchase/not purchase. When you order books, the classroom earns free books once we accumulate enough points.

    CONFERENCES
The school district requires that we schedule two conferences each year. There will be two one-on-one parent teacher conferences scheduled with each family in late August and mid February. Student-Led Conferences are no longer a part of the Chandler Unified School District's conference schedule. Although there are only two mandatory conferences, I am happy to schedule conferences at any point during the year. Just let me know when you need to talk, and I will give you some open times for that week to meet in person or by phone. I feel that communication is a vital part of the education process, so please feel free to contact me at any time.

    CONTACTING THE TEACHER
You may contact me at any time with questions/concerns/etc. Please do not hesitate to get clarification about any question you may have. I am here as a resource for you, as well as your student. I am happy to answer any questions and help in any way possible. If you need to reach me at the beginning of a school day, the fastest way is to send a note with your child. I try to periodically check for e-mails and messages throughout the day, however, with our busy schedule at school, time does not always permit me to do so. I will always get back to you in a timely manner. E-MAIL is the best way to communicate with me!

    DROP-OFF/PICK-UP
Students should be dropped off no earlier than 8:15 a.m. There are no adults on duty prior to this time. Dismissal time is 3:10pm  for grades 1-6. When you pull through the lineup, please remain in your car so that the teachers are able to keep the traffic flow moving more effectively. There will be people on duty to assist students while getting into cars.

    EFFORT
Sometimes your child may “forget” how to do an assignment that we worked on in class. It’s better to bring in the assignment partially completed than not to bring it in at all. This way we can see what teaching interventions are needed so your child can be successful. Having the student write out the questions that they plan on asking the teacher in class the next day can be helpful.

    FORGOTTEN ITEMS
If you notice that your child forgot an item, you can drop it off in the front office so that class is not disrupted. They will ensure that we are notified. Students will not be able to call home for forgotten items.

    HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week. Students will have approximately 30-40 minutes of homework on each of these nights. This does not include reading minutes. Some students may need a few extra minutes to complete the same work. If your child seems to take much longer than a half of an hour to 40 minute time frame, please let me know. Homework should be ready to turn in first thing in the morning on the day it is due.

    LIFE HAPPENS
We do understand that sometimes life happens and homework is left on the table at home or in the car. Every now and then there is an emergency or you have an opportunity to do something unique. If life happens and a student comes in without homework, they can let us know that life happened. For that day, they will have no consequence for not bringing the assignment in on time as long as it is brought in the next day. This does not apply to major projects that have been worked on for a two week (or longer) time period. If it happens frequently (more than once a month) you will be notified and grades may be affected.

    LUNCH/RECESS

    SNACKS
A break will be taken mid-afternoon for snacks. Please send a snack with your child since our lunch is so early in the day. Snacks should be something that will not create a big mess if accidentally dropped.  Healthy snacks are highly recommended, as well. Candy is not a snack.

    TARDIES
If your student is tardy, he/she MUST stop by the front office before reporting to our room. He/she will be given a tardy slip to bring to me so that I know he/she is officially checked in for the day. School starts at 8:40 am, and attendance is taken as part of our morning routine. Please be sure to follow the tardy policy to insure your student’s safety. Thank you for getting your child to school on time each day!

    TRANSPORTATION
It is extremely important that we always have an updated note about your child’s transportation to and from school. If at any point during the year you need to change your child’s transportation, please notify us so that we can insure that he/she gets to the appropriate place on time. You may add/delete people authorized to take your student home from school in the front office. This can only be done by the parent/guardian.

    VOLUNTEERS
If you are interested in volunteering in our classroom, please use the Signup Genius page located under the Parents Link on this website. If at any time you are coming to school to volunteer, please sign in at the front office first. You will receive a nametag to wear while you are here, and this lets the adults on campus know that you are an approved visitor. This procedure is for your child’s safety, so please be sure to stop by the office on your way in for any kind of event or volunteering. Thank you for your help.

    WATER BOTTLES
Each day, it is a great idea to send your student to school with a water bottle. There is a designated spot for students to keep their bottles in the classroom, and students will be able to get drinks as needed. It is so important to be hydrated in Arizona's desert! We also have a drinking fountain in class. Please DO NOT send in Gatorade, Powerade, or any drinks other than water. This will help keep our carpets, tile and desks clean!
