Hi, I’m Dick Percy and I teach 5th grade here at CTA-Humphrey! I love teaching and spending time with my wonderful family. I have a beautiful wife and best friend named Lizzy. We have an amazing daughter named Harlow-Audrey (Hypenated Name/Named after Jean Harlow & Audrey Hepburn) and an awesome son named Drew (Born on my birthday!). Our family continues with a desert tortoise named Rey-Anne and an adorable Yorkshire Terrier named Lady-Anne.
My Education and Professional Background
This is my 18th year at CTA-Humphrey and my 24th year in CUSD. I also work for Arizona State University-Gammage Auditorium as an Asst. House Manager and I was a teacher education professor at Chandler-Gilbert Community College for 7 years. I am an ASU graduate and a very proud Sun Devil alumnus. My degrees are in: Early Childhood Education (ASU), Fire Science (MCC), and Educational Leadership (NAU). Prior to working for CUSD, I taught at a private Christian preschool in Chandler for 6 years.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that teaching children requires a lot of love and patience. Students need to be in an environment where they feel accepted and valued as an important member of their classroom community. This will help them be able to grow and be successful. I encourage my students to always challenge themselves and to never give up. I am here to help them along the way, but they also have to be willing to help themselves.
