AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

What is AVID?

AVID is an elective class at Santan Junior High.  This nationally recognized program is geared for the majority of students who academically fall in the middle.  Most programs are tailored for the upper and lower percentiles but the majority are without support.  These students often left behind will have a chance to acquire skills and learn proven methods to find success in rigorous honors classes.  Many of these students hunger for more challenging coursework, but fear failure. Their potential lies dormant, waiting to be recognized, encouraged, and supported.

• AVID accelerates average-achieving students into more rigorous honors-level courses.
• AVID offers intensive support through the AVID Elective.
  
• All AVID strategies are research-based.
• AVID encourages communication and sharing among teachers, couselors, and principals.
• AVID is a schoolwide initiative.

AVID is NOT:

• an "at-risk" program
• an enrichment program
• a study hall
• a "free ride" into the honors program
• a college outreach program
