    Welcome to 5th grade CTA! My name is Lorie Zylstra and I love being a part of the fifth grade team at Rice.

    My Education and Professional Background

    I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. I have moved around and lived in Las Vegas, Seattle, and now finally here in Chandler. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel Administration from UNLV. I worked in Human Resources for very large corporations, such as MGM Hotel, Microsoft, and Intel. I took some time off when my girls were babies and then finally pursued my passion for teaching in 2005. I received my Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from ASU in 2007. I've taught in CUSD since then and 5th grade CTA is definitely my favorite. 

    My Educational Philosophy

    I am pleased to welcome you to the 2024 - 2025 school year! I am looking forward to having your child as a student. Fifth grade is such a fun year with a lot of growth and many wonderful learning activities to celebrate. In order to have a fun year, my most important goal is to create a family of learners in my classroom. I am committed to creating a classroom environment where your child is a valued, trusted, and integral part of our community. We have planned a variety of activities to emphasize and reinforce this goal. I couldn’t do this without your support. If you ever have any questions, please reach out to me.
