My Education and Professional Background
I was born and raised in a small town in Washington State. I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Education, in May 2002. I moved to Arizona that summer and started my first teaching job that July. I taught for the Madison School District for 8 years, teaching Kindergarten for six years, first grade for one year and an ELL Kindergarten and First grade combination class for one year. I started working at Chandler Unified School District the summer of 2011. I spent my first three years teaching Kindergarten and started teaching Second Grade in 2014. In 2017, I switched back to Kindergarten. I have loved the change in grade levels and it has really challenged me as a teacher.
My Educational Philosophy
My educational philosophy is simple. I am teaching the whole child. I, of course, am concerned about teaching the state standards and grade level curriculum, but I am also teaching social skills, how to motivate students to do their best and teaching them about self worth, confidence and empathy towards others.
