• [Welcome!]

Hello, my name is Brianne Aaker and I teach Special Education here at Rice Elementary. I am Nationally Board Certified. I am also the Department Chair for special education. I grew up in Washington State and have lived in Arizona since 2011. I got my Undergraduate Degree from The University of Washington in Social Welfare. I then moved to Arizona and got my Masters from Arizona State University in Special and Elementary Education. I am so excited and proud to be on the Rice team.

In the special education program, your child will be receiving specialized instruction to meet his/her IEP goals. We will be using various multi-sensory and hands-on activities to review, re-teach, and/or reinforce concepts taught in the general education classroom. In addition, we will be using direct instruction to provide intensive intervention as appropriate to help maximize your child's success. Behavioral support will be provided through direct services and/or consultation with the classroom teacher regarding behavior plans and strategies as needed. In addition, we will work with students on organizational and study strategies to help them become effective learners. Special education services may be provided through a variety of ways including: inclusion in the general education classroom, co-teacher, and pull-out in the special education room. Communication between the team throughout the year is key to ensuring your child's success.
