Welcome!
Welcome to 6th Grade Writing and Social Studies. This year we will be focusing on Writing using the Write from the Beginning and Thinking Maps curriculum. Students will work on writing persuasive and informational essays using quality reasons and details and examples to support their opinions. In Social Studies we will be focusing on the Ancient Cultures; Mesopotamia, Ancient China, India, Greece, and Rome. We will also learn about time periods up till the Renaissance. We will be using non-fiction reading and writing skills to learn about and share our knowledge of the past. We will be diving in and learning about these Ancient Cultures and discovering how these cultures helped shape our world today.
My Education and Professional Background
I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education from Regis University in Denver, Colorado and my Master's Degree from NAU. I taught 6th grade for 1 year in Mesa, 4th and 5th grade for 4 years at EDUPRIZE in Queen Creek, and 4th and 5th grade for 6 years with Denver Public Schools in Denver, Colorado.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that all students are unique and need to be treated like individuals. They all have something special to bring to the classroom and I will work with them to help them let their individuality shine. I have high expectations for my students and work with them to help them reach those expectations. I encourage question and then help give the students the tools to seek the answers on their own. As a teacher, part of my job is to prepare my students to become well rounded adults who positively contribute to their communities. My goal is to help my students see their potential and set goals to reach it.
