Accelerated Reader (AR) Procedures
A.R. Goals: During the first quarter, everyone is expected to earn 10 A.R. points (20 picture books or 10 chapter books) with a test score of 80% or higher. Reading levels and goals will be adjusted quarterly for each child.
Parental Support: Your child will have two (2) A.R. books checked out from the library at all times. The students should be reading picture books 3-5 times before they are ready to test. Parents please:
- Review/quiz book with child before taking the test at school.
- Help your child complete the A.R. tracking sheet/log (tab in CAMP binder); your child has practiced this procedure in class.
- Sign up for Home Connect to track your child’s progress.
- Check out additional A.R. books at your local library by using www.arbookfind.com.
A.R. Club: Our CTA schedule is extremely demanding and there is little time for any extra activities during class time. In order to help promote success with the A.R. program, our school created A.R. Club that children can attend with parent permission. Children who are ready to take test (tracking log is filled out, they have A.R. book and log-in information with them) can come to the computer lab on Tuesdays and Wednesday from 8:00-8:25. This is an optional activity; children don’t need to attend every week or both days, they attend only when ready for A.R. test(s).
