    Welcome!

    Rachel Self is so excited to be joining the CUSD family as a first year itinerant band teacher. In addition to teaching, Rachel has been active in the Valley performing arts community through music direction and orchestra pit playing for musical theatre, and by playing in and serving as orchestral manager for a local joint choir and orchestra group. If she isn't teaching in her classroom or out teaching in the community, you'll find her practicing her many instruments! Thank you to the whole CUSD family for welcoming her into such a fabulous district and home to her new career!

    My Education and Professional Background

    She received her degree from Arizona State University this past spring in Liberal Studies, with an Emphasis in Music, Learning, and Teaching.

    My Educational Philosophy

    Rachel's educational philosophy is one that was instilled in her by her own band director. Anyone can play music. If you have a pulse, you can play! She also places heavy emphasis on the why behind it all, because in doing so you teach the whole musician. Answering students' why informs the rest of their education and allows them to draw connections between music and the rest of their lives.
