My Education and Professional Background
I have earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Northern Arizona University. Yes, I am a proud Lumberjack. I graduated Cum Laude for my undergrad work and earned a "With distinction" rating for my graduate level work. Hard work definitely pays off! I have been teaching Spanish for the majority of my career. I began teaching Spanish in Flagstaff, AZ back in 1993. I have been actively teaching and learning Spanish since then! The majority of my career has been at the middle school or junior high school level. However, I have also taught high school, elementary and college levels, as well. I love teaching Spanish!
My Educational Philosophy
I believe language learning should be equal parts challenge and fun. I employ both in my teaching and learning environment. I use a variety of approaches to make learning meaningful for ALL students. It's not uncommon to see a game, hear a song, engage in TPR (Total Physical Response) or more "traditional" methods in my classroom. I know that all my students are different and have different strengths, abilities and challenges. I strive to give each student their optimal learning environment and level of attaining success. I also know and understand that learning a foreign language takes time and effort and value the gains made when students actively review class information.
