Why do you assign homework?
Posted by:I assign homework because it is part of the CTA program requirements outlined in the CTA handbook, which you can access electonically at anytime! I follow the handbook guidelines and policies closely. Homework is intended as an opportunity to review and practice key topics reviewed in class, so your child should be able to complete their assignments independently. Encourage your child to utilize their resources, including their notes, handouts in the student resources section of their binder and by reading the directions in their text books. They can also be encouraged to use the link on my website for additional homework help resources.
-
Can my child bring a snack?
Posted by:Students can bring a snack to enjoy during our afternoon recess. Snacks will be eaten outside to accommodate those with allergies. Students may not share food at lunch or snack due to possible allergies, dietary restrictions, parent preference etc. Healthy snacks are highly encouraged.
-
Can students bring birthday treats?
Posted by:Yes, students may bring prepackaged, individually wrapped treats, which will be distributed at the end of the school day for students to enjoy at home to honor dietary restrictions, allergies etc.
-
Can students pass out birthday invitations at school?
Posted by:Yes, as long as everyone in the class is invited. See the question regarding our class directory should you decide against this.
-
Where can I find a class directory?
Posted by:Follow the link in our class Instagram bio! Note: You must add yourself to this directory. Be sure to include as much information as you'd like. If a student is unlisted, this means their parent has not chosen to participate.
-
Where can I find the Spelling words?
Posted by:Refer to your child's planner and/or the monthly grade-level newsletter for specific list assignments and of coordinating test dates. Access the word lists on spellingcity.com and/or by having your child bring home their Spalding notebook!
Tests are the last day of the school week. No tests will take place during weeks with less than 4 school days.
-
What is your policy on students bringing their own devices such as cell phones, smart watches etc.?
Posted by:All devices are silenced and kept in backpacks to minimize distractions. Please call the office should you have an immediate need to communicate with your child prior to the end of the school day! Students can take out their personal devices at dismissal once they exit the building.
-
How do you communicate with families?
Posted by:Daily: Student agendas-Students will record their homework assignments and track their leadership choices daily. I will note if there is a missing homework assignment or if your child does not meet their leadership goals. Please sign to acknowledge. Students will also record their assigned Spelling lists and important events such as spirit days in their agendas as well.
Weekly updates by the end of each weekend (typically on Fridays): Instagram reels (if you don't follow our class on Instagram, you can still watch the reels via Parent Square).
Monthly grade-level newsletters will be sent via Parent Square.
Please contact me with specific needs and questions that aren't addressed with the communication above!
-

-
Can students use calculators or other technology to complete Math?

-
Why do the students have to write in cursive?

My child is sick/injured and has to miss school unexpectedly. How can they make up what they missed?
Posted by:I will keep a list of missed lessons and assignments for them to complete upon their return. Make-up classwork can be done at home or at school. Make-up tests and quizzes must be completed at school. Missing phonogram and/or spelling tests will be excused as no make-ups are available.
-
My child will be absent for a phonograms and/or spelling test. Can they make it up?
Posted by:No, since tests take 30 or more minutes to administer, I do not offer make-up spelling tests. Instead, the missed test will be excused.
-
Our family will be out of town. Can we request work ahead of time?
Posted by:I create specific lesson plans on a daily basis, depending on class needs and progress. Therefore, I am unable to send work in advance as I simply cannot predict exactly what the class will cover during your child's absence! However, I will give students a list of lessons and assignments they missed upon their return. To b e proactive, students can complete any long-term assignments that may be on-going, as well as their regularly assigned homework while absent including reading, MobyMax and studying. Students will have until the end of the quarter to turn in missing class and homework.
