Welcome! My name is Gloria Garza-Wells. I will be sharing my love for teaching your 7th grade Social Studies students. I am an Arizona native, originally from Tucson, I have been living in the East Valley for 8 years with my husband and 4 kids. I am very active in the Chandler Community and love bringing people together while sharing my beautiful Mexican culture with Ballet Folklorico and community outreach. Looking forward to meeting you!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, GO DEVILS! While being a full time stay at home mother and student, I used my time training in dance and starting a non-profit for Mexican Folk Studies.

My Educational Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is to foster enthusiasm. Learning can be fun. Spending time with dancers my whole life has shown me that enthusiasm begets enthusiasm, and my own enthusiasm in the classroom has been recognized by students and colleagues. Students’ diverse backgrounds, motivations and skills, however, mean that they bring their own interests to learning encounters. In order to encourage their engagement and development, I therefore strive for a classroom that seeks and supports students’ ideas and interests. Student diversity is in this way not just a reality, but also a valuable resource.Starting from students’ own knowledge and experience can in this way spark analysis and encourage an enthusiasm for the social sciences.

Hello! I am starting my 17th year at Bogle Junior High, although this is my 20th year teaching in the state. I am an Arizona native and grew up in the East Valley. . In my spare time I enjoy: The Phoenix Suns, going to movies, listening to music, going to concerts and plays, playing percussion, dancing, bowling, racquetball, board games, traveling, and anything else fun. I am in a local indie rock band, called Futurekind.

My Education and Professional Background

I got my teaching degree from NAU in Elementary Education with a dual emphasis in mathematics and music. I have since obtained my Masters in Educational Counseling. I am also the 7th grade boys’ basketball coach.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that math is a subject that should be enjoyed through participating in math experiences where meaningful learning takes place. Although some parts of math have to be memorized, most of our math learning comes from exploring math concepts so that we gain a deeper conceptual understanding of what we are doing and of why the traditional algorithms work. Math is not just a subject, but a way of thinking. It's important to help students connect what we learn in math to the useful real-life applications of the concepts.

Welcome!

Welcome to Bogle Jr. High! My name is Mr. Fortney and I am thrilled to be teaching 7th grade GRIT science this year. This will be my 16th year teaching science, and my 13th year at Bogle. I student taught at Bogle and loved the staff and students so much that I decided to stay. I began my teaching career here in the fall of 2005. I have taught both 7th and 8th grade Science, ELL, special education, and gifted. I taught science at an all-boys school in New York City for three years as well.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my bachelor's degree from Augustana College majoring in Biology and Pre-Medicine. I also have a Master’s of Public Health (MPH) degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago. After completing my MPH I immediately entered Teaching Education for Arizona Science and Mathematics (TEAMS) at ASU during the summer of 2004. I graduated with my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction and my teaching certificate summer of 2005.

My Educational Philosophy

Science is amazing! I hope that throughout the course of this year you will feel the same. My main goal is to get you to think critically, scientifically, and creatively in order to solve problems and answer questions about the world around you. This means you have to think! There is only one wrong answer you can give on homework or during class discussion, that is I DON'T KNOW! I promise that if you try and do your best you will always succeed.

Welcome!

Welcome back to school! As an incoming 7th grader, Jr. High may seem a bit overwhelming at first but once the first few weeks have settle, I am certain you will enjoy being at Bogle. This is a new school year so it is a chance to start over no matter how last year went. Together we will explore the world of science by questioning, experimenting, evaluating and make new discoveries.

My Education and Professional Background

I have been working in the Chandler Unified District since 1999, and I've worked at Bogle Jr. High School since 2010. I have taught Math 7/8, Honors Math 7/8 and Science 7. I received a BS in Biology from ASU, Elementary Teacher certification from University of Phoenix and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from NAU. I am highly qualified having obtained endorsements in Middle School Math, SEI, General Science and participated in AMP (Arizona Mathematics Program) for 2 years. Prior to teaching, I was a Microbiologist for the State of Arizona for eight years and became the Supervisor of the Serology Department. My department was responsible for testing state and county hospitals for HIV, Hepatitis, Valley Fever, Immunological Screens and other serological tests. In 1993/1994, I was chosen to travel to the CDC in Ft. Collins, Colorado, to work with other microbiologists from the Four Corners states when Hantavirus became evident.

My Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, I want to promote life-long skills for the students and encourage them to construct knowledge by questioning, discovering and practicing these skills in the classroom. Providing students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied creates an opportunity for individual discovery and building knowledge to occur. My prior work experience and years of teaching have allowed me to teach my students what they would need to know and bring the real-world situations into the classroom for them to achieve the success they need for their future. I enjoy teaching at the middle school level because this is where students are at the crossroads in their life when they need to think about their own future.

My Education and Professional Background

BA Education from Arizona State University, Rodel Aspiring Student Teacher, Arizona Mathematics Partnership 2014-2016, Teacher Leader Arizona Mathematics Partnership 2016-2017

My Educational Philosophy

I believe all students are capable of learning. They all do not learn at the same rate, but with different methods and strategies it is possible. Students should not be thought of as mindless individuals just waiting to be filled with knowledge by their teachers. Quite the opposite; students should be viewed as individuals who can contribute to the classroom, sharing and gaining knowledge from each other.

In my free time, I'm at the gym, hiking, mountain biking, reading mystery books, working on dollhouse miniatures or even going to rock concerts.(been to over 100!)My husband and I have four grown children.

My Education and Professional Background

BA Lakeland College-Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Magna Cum Laude Graduate. M Ed Arizona State University-Tempe, Arizona.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each of my students has the opportunity to receive a superior education. I want every student to feel as though this an exciting, stimulating, and safe place to learn. It is important they feel valued in this learning community. Their participation in the education process is critical, and they matter! I cannot be the only advocate for the students, rather parents play the most critical role through their support of their students to find success. The family's role ranges from deliberately providing the opportunity for their child to study, encouraging them to be involved positively in school, as well as being a visible support of the teachers' efforts to guide their child to successful. Learning should be that of discovery for the learner! My classroom is their classroom, their setting to practice, evaluate, and revise the knowledge they acquire. My ultimate goal for your student is for them to always be learners!

You will be a different person when you leave than you were when you arrive. Be ready to accept the challenge.

My Education and Professional Background

I earned a BSE in English and French from the University of Central Missouri in 1976. In 1983 I completed an MA in English Education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. I am a graduate of the Greater Kansas City Writing Project. Prior to coming to Chandler, I I taught high school English, directed the writing program, developed a dual enrollment course, An original Bogle staff member since 1991, I have taught language arts, French, reading, journalism, and enrichment skills.

My Educational Philosophy

Each learner brings unique gifts to the classroom. It is the job of the classroom teacher to provide multiple opportunities for students to discover their gifts and use them both now and in the future. Learning specific facts is less important than learning how to access information and use it to meet needs and solve problems. The best learning comes from experience. I cannot make anyone learn, but I can create an environment where learners can become inquisitive, self-directed, thoughtful, and educated people.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education - English emphasis. I went on to earn my Masters of Education in Educational Leadership, then obtained my reading endorsement as well. My career began in the Kyrene District where I taught 7th Grade Language Arts for 9 years. I took a break after that for two years to stay home with my children. Upon returning to the classroom I accepted another position in Kyrene teaching 6th Grade Reading Intervention. After two years of that I went on to teach 8th Grade Language Arts for the next five years. I now find myself fortunate enough to be starting my 5th year here in Chandler, where my children attend, and where I am a community member as well, and my 21st year as an educator. I truly believe that education is the key that opens countless doors of opportunity, and that one is never done learning. I hope to instill in my students and model for them the desire to be life-long learners, helping them realize that learning goes beyond the walls of any school. I want them to know that an open mind leads to a full one.

Welcome to 8th grade! I look forward to meeting all of you and working together to learn about and examine the world around us.

My Education and Professional Background

I attended Arizona State University and received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a certificate in Civic Education, a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, and a minor in Psychology. I had the extreme privilege of completing my student teaching at Bogle Junior High in 2013. Since then I have most recently worked as a paraprofessional in CUSD's dedicated EDGE program located at Chief Hill Learning Academy.

My Educational Philosophy

It is my philosophy that-especially in our world today-it is vital for young people to be ready to engage with complex and uncertain issues using critical and rational thinking. The Social Studies serve as a lens through which we can view the world around us and make informed judgments based on evidence. To this end I emphasize educational opportunities where students can collaborate, engage with primary sources, and attempt to understand alternative perspectives. We all approach the world with a certain set of experiences and talents, but there is no reason that we should let ourselves stop there. There is always room for growth!

My Educational Philosophy

I firmly believe in the quote from the movie A League of Their Own, It's supposed to be hard, it being hard is what makes it great. What does this mean for education? If a student is not having to work at accomplishing something then they are not learning. Failure is a natural part of learning and must be embraced to be a full learner. I attempt to push my students to their individual limits and support them in their growth. There is always more to learn for everyone. The wisest man knows he KNOWS NOTHING.

Welcome! My name is Deanna Maxwell and this year I will be your student's 8th grade English Language Arts teacher here at Bogle Junior High. I'm excited to work with you and your student this year. Outside of the classroom I enjoy spending time in nature, spending time with family and friends, dabbling in music, and furthering my own writing career.

My Education and Professional Background

I obtained my Bachelors of Science in secondary education English at Northern Arizona University with certificates in creative writing and literature. I've had experience with 9th grade English, 12th grade AP English, and have peer instructed for freshman college composition classes. I have been at Bogle since 2017 and I love teaching 8th grade!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that students learn best when they ask authentic questions and interpret classroom content to create their own perspectives. Students also learn best when they can relate classroom activities to their everyday life. Maintaining a respectful classroom environment is essential in the learning process. Students learn best when they know the “why” behind the learning and read content in a meaningful way. It is important to me that I create a setting that is comfortable and open for students to learn in. I want students to take charge and responsibility of their own education. All students deserve equal opportunities and I plan to give them that in my classroom.

I believe that every child has the ability to be successful if they are given the instruction and confidence they need. Students learn in a variety of ways. One way students learn is from their mistakes as well as the mistakes of their fellow classmates. In my classroom, mistakes are expected, respected, inspected, and corrected. We will collaborate and talk about our math every day to build upon each other's ideas, learn and grow together as a class!

Welcome!

Welcome to my Bogle Junior High School's Grit Academy. My name is Dr. Bonnie Flores and I absolutely love teaching Algebra I Honors and Geometry Honors to our Bogle 8th graders. I am looking forward to a fabulous year, inspiring your love for math!

My Education and Professional Background

I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Florida, and continued at UF to complete my M.Eds. in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in both secondary school math and science. In 2012, I graduated Nova Southeastern University with my Doctorate in Education, specializing in both Educational Technology and Distance Education, as well as Modern Learning Theory.

My Educational Philosophy

My primary specialization is in adolescent gifted education. Since I began my teaching career in 1999, I have taught gifted education in upper elementary through junior high. I am the 8th grade GRIT Academy Team Leader for Bogle Junior High School. My goal is to make a positive growing experience by working as a team, teacher-child-parent. Communication, consistency, and positive reinforcement will be the key to success for your child. I believe a teacher's role is to guide and facilitate, providing access to information, rather than acting as the primary source of information, engaging and enticing the students' search for knowledge, as they learn to find answers to their questions, and get down to the GRIT of it!

Welcome!

Hello! I'm Mrs. Huhta, special education teacher at Bogle Junior High School. I work with students in multiple capacities, from teaching strategies to coteaching in math and language arts.

My Education and Professional Background

I earned my Bachelor of Science in elementary and special education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in December of 2011. After teaching for three years, I decided to return to school to further my education. I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Master of Arts in educational administration in October of 2016. I've been teaching in Chandler since 2012, and consider myself a lifelong learner.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that education is comprised of so much more than the content taught in our core classes. As an educator, I'm passionate about teaching not only different subjects, but also valuable life skills that students will use in a school setting and beyond. I also recognize the importance of teaching to the individual, not the majority. My greatest passion in teaching is expanding my own knowledge base and bank of teaching strategies, so I can teach to all learners.
