    Welcome!

    Hello Hawks! My name is Dr. Debbie Posniack and I am so excited to be in my second year at CTA Independence teaching STEM! I am a 26 year veteran educator and have taught 2nd-5th grades, have been a district curriculum specialist for Social Studies and Literacy, and have also worked as a school administrator. I am married and have three amazing children: Zachary (26) and Jacob (21) both graduated from Hamilton High School and Mikayla (8) is in 3rd grade at Ryan in their CATS classroom. I am a proud CUSD parent and teacher!

    My Education and Professional Background

    I have spent the last 25 years teaching, coaching and training teachers, and being an administrator. I taught 2nd-5th grades in Orange County, CA before starting a Fulbright Memorial Fellowship in Japan studying how they train and mentor teachers. I received my Ph.D. from Penn State University in 2006, in Curriculum and Instruction, hold a Masters degree from Pepperdine University in Educational Administration, and earned my BA from Cal State Fullerton. I love to learn and help others grow!

    My Educational Philosophy

    My educational philosophy stems from the belief that everyone can learn! I believe in helping each student use and develop a growth mindset to enable them to goal set, actively work toward reaching their goals, and then set new goals for themselves, continually striving to learn, grow, hone their skills, and develop new understandings. I encourage curiosity and use inquiry within the classroom to help students discover and explore all the while achieving beyond their full potential.

    There is so much that makes CTA Independence special, from our amazing teachers and staff, to our fabulous students, to our wonderfully generous families, PTO, and business partners, CTA Independence is a powerful learning community! I am, of course, incredibly partial to our STEM program! As the STEM Teacher, I am proud to say that we are one of the only schools lucky enough to have a full-time STEM Teacher! We use processes like the scientific method and the engineering design process to investigate and explore our world, build and create structures, and infuse the arts into our lessons to create a STEAM environment! We are also lucky to have zSpace, which is an augmented virtual reality program that allows students to inquire, observe, and explain many different things in science in a virtual, 3-D learning experience. CTA Independence is definitely a special place to learn!
