My Educational Philosophy

When I look back on my teaching career in science, I see a lot of changes made in my teaching style and strategies. When I started teaching, much of what I had to offer to facilitate student learning was based on my past learning experiences and what I remembered from teachers who had taught me. The content knowledge was a crutch that I used to help try to motivate and inspire my students. Throughout the years, I have adapted my teaching style based on research, trial and error, and reflection. When involving students of different ability level’s needs I try to be creative and meet the student at the level at which they are learning. I believe this is an effective way to involve students in their learning and maximize achievement. Student-centered project-based learning has been one successful method to obtain these results in my class. After some teacher guidance, students try to arrive at a final conclusion from learning that occurs on a need-to-know basis.
