    Welcome!

My name is Amy Steele.   I have been teaching 8th grade at AJHS for seven years now and have enjoyed it very much!

    Educational Background

I am an Arizona native and graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. I then went on to complete my graduate studies and teaching certification program at Arizona State University, where I received my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading.

    Professional History

After graduating from Arizona State University in 1996, I began teaching Special Education at Connolly Middle School in Tempe, Arizona.  After three years, I moved into the general education classroom, where I taught 7th grade for seven years.  In 2005, I made the best decision of my life when I moved to Andersen Jr. High School in the Chandler Unified School District.  Since then, I have been teaching 8th grade Language Arts, and have never been happier.

    Educational Philosophy

I believe that all students can learn!  It is important to teach students to think for themselves and to grow as learners to become the best they can be.  Helping students build confidence and self-esteem is as important as teaching students curriculum so that they will continue to grow and be lifelong learners.

    Personal Interests

I am the proud mother of two beautiful daughters.  In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends.

    The Choice is Yours !

When choosing a school for your child, it is important to look at many aspects, not just academics.  I feel that here, at AJHS, students receive a well-rounded education where they are put in a real world situation in order to learn academics, citizenship, communication, acceptance of others' differences, responsibility, and compassion.  The teachers at AJHS truly care about the well being of students and do everything in their power to help them succeed.

In addition, our school is a two-time recipient of the A+ School of Excellence award from the Arizona Education Foundation in 2008 and now in 2012.  We are one of the few junior high schools to receive this award twice thanks to our superb staff, students and our community.

In order to ensure the success of our students, we are always implementing new ideas and programs.  Some of the programs offered at our school that have been beneficial to our students are:  single-gender classes, study skills, academic lab, after-school tutoring, and our school-wide discipline program (RTP).  In addition, we offer mixed gender classes, as well as honors classes, with an emphasis on the IB/MYP program.  The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program helps the student to have an easy transition into Chandler's High School's IB program.  IB is the most reputable advanced placement program and benefits high school students in college admissions.

I love working at AJHS and guarantee your child will love being a part of the AJHS family!
