    Welcome!

Welcome families to Santan Elementary Preschool. My name is Deborah Raizes, “Ms. Deborah.” I am so excited to be your child’s teacher and have the opportunity to participate in their journey in preschool this year. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child as we together support their exciting growth and discovery this year. My goal is to provide an engaging environment where your children feel safe to explore and experience many fun learning opportunities. I can’t wait for an exciting year in Preschool.

I was born in California and lived in many states, and I settled in Arizona in 2020. I live in Chandler with my youngest of three son’s, our dog “Snowbear” and our parrot “Macaroni” (Mac for short). When I am not enjoying the time working with young children I enjoy painting, hiking, paddle boarding and spending time with my family (especially my sons), and friends.

    My Education and Professional Background

I spent many years teaching early childhood education beginning with toddlers and then preschool. This is my 9th year teaching and my first-year teaching at Santan Elementary.  I taught Preschool for seven years and returned to school to earn my Master’s degree from the Northern Arizona University in Early Childhood Special Education  in 2022.

    My Educational Philosophy

As stated by Bev Boss, “If it hasn’t been in the hand…and the body…it can’t be in the brain” I believe that the experiences that children experience through hands on involvement provide the best learning opportunities. I also believe that children are more likely to explore and interact with learning experiences when they are in a safe, loving environment. Our curriculum and weekly lesson activities encourage engagement and learning through hands on child interest activities and are adapted for each child’s individual needs to make it meaningful for all. Our classroom community is built from the caring home environments, the teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists, and the children that support the growth of each child together.
