    Welcome!

    My name is Karen McBurney and I'm excited to be teaching 1st grade this year at Santan Elementary. I have been teaching in the Chandler School District since 1999. I have been teaching at Santan since the school opened and I absolutely love being a Santan Stormer! I have taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade, I'm looking forward to a fantastic school year!

    My Education and Professional Background

    I graduated from Arizona State University in 1998 with a degree in Elementary Education. I completed my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Arizona University in 2002. I also have an English as a Second Language endorsement and an Early Childhood endorsement. In 2014 I became a National Board Certified Teacher, my certification is Middle Child Generalist. I enjoy being an elementary school teacher!

    My Educational Philosophy

    I believe each child in my class is special, unique and has the ability to be successful. My classroom has an environment that is a safe, nurturing, engaging, enjoyable place to learn each day. I desire to develop partnerships with parents, create lifelong learners who strive to do their personal best and provide opportunities for children to create wonderful memories.
