Welcome!
Dear Future Students and Parents, Welcome to an incredible sixth grade year! We will learn and experience many new things together. You will be both amazed and proud at all that you have accomplished by the time our journey together ends. I am looking forward to getting to know you so that we may begin working as a team to create a successful sixth grade year. Welcome to the wonderful and exciting world of sixth grade! I look forward to working together! Sincerely, Ms. Kim Sanford
My Education and Professional Background
I spent my first two years after graduating from high school at the University of California at Santa Cruz. After some consideration, I found that Arizona State University has a program more tailored to my goals. I graduated with a BS in Family Resources and Human Development and a minor in Psychology. A few years later I went be to receive my Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification. I student taught at Santan Elementary and was hired to teach sixth grade the following year! In 2019 I earned my National Board Teacher Certification in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts-Early and Middle Childhood.
My Educational Philosophy
Every child deserves an environment in which they can learn and demonstrate what they know and what they can do. I believe that this environment must be fostered within a classroom between students and teacher where a child feels valued and accepted in order for them to work to their best abilities. This comes with structure, high expectations for all students, and the support needed for student to strive for success. Additionally, education is a team effort between the student, teacher, and their care givers. All three have to work together to have a student grow and thrive, both socially and academically.
