    My Education and Professional Background

About Ms. Jacobs:  I began my teaching career with CUSD in 1998.  I've taught kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade and currently teaching 5th grade.  My dad taught at CUSD for 34 years and actually retired the year that I began:-)  I've always loved working with children.  Prior to my teaching career, I graduated from ASU with a degree in Psychology.   At that time, I worked in the community mental health sector, with a focus on research into childhood depression.  I became an in-home counselor for children/families and taught social skills training and parenting classes. I'm very grateful for that experience and how it has shaped and prepared me to be a better teacher.  I received my Master's in Education from NAU.  Education is where my heart is at :-)  I've been at Tarwater since its opening in 1998 and it will always be my home!

    My Educational Philosophy

I believe my number one role, as an educator, is to love my students. My hope is that each day in some way I would show all my kids that I love them and believe in them. I feel it is so important to build a relationship with each child who comes into my classroom and to earn their trust and respect. When a relationship has been built between the students and myself, they will soar academically. I believe in establishing a good relationship, not only with the students, but also with their parents. Parent teacher communication is key to the success of students. I communicate daily with my parents through student agenda, newsletters, email and DOJO. Parents are one of the most important resources in meeting the individual needs of each student.
