    Meet your teachers:

    Dear Parents,

Welcome to third grade!  Our names are Mrs. Folmsbee and Mrs. Jacobs, and we have the privilege of being your child’s teachers this year.  We are going to have a fabulous year!  We teach as a job share:  Mrs Folmsbee teaches Monday and Tuesday.  Mrs.  Jacobs teaches Thursday and Friday.  We alternate Wednesdays.  It is an amazing privilege to be in our classroom with two amazing teachers to work with your child!

    Allow us to introduce ourselves:

Mrs. Folmsbee: I am one of the few people who can call Arizona my true home.  I was born and raised in Arizona, spending my childhood in Ahwatukee.  I received my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona, and I have Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University.  My teaching experience ranges from first grade all the way to fourth grade.  This will be my fourteenth-year teaching.  I am so excited to be starting another wonderful year of third grade at Riggs!  When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my family – my husband Kyle and my daughters Brynn, Charlee, and Emery.  We love to hike around AZ and travel to visit family in Seattle and New York.

Mrs. Jacobs: I have been a teacher for 19 years, both in Arizona and California. My experience in grade levels runs from kindergarten to third grade but most recently in CUSD as a first and second grade teacher at Riggs Elementary. In addition to teaching for CUSD, I was also a Literacy Coach for the district, helping other teachers to implement best practice in Language Arts. I received my bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and my teaching credential and ESL training from Dominican College in San Rafael, CA. I have been fortunate enough to receive training with the Bay Area Writing Project and with Lucy Calkins at Columbia University's Teachers' College in New York. Over my career I have been a Mentor Teacher (California's BTSA program), a Master Teacher, and Grade Level Chair. I am excited to continue my journey at Riggs Elementary!

As your child’s teachers, we will create a safe, comfortable, and caring environment in order to help each student be successful and learn. We will encourage your child to always try his/her best.  Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t-you are right.” We feel that attitude is extremely important, and we try to teach our students each and everyday that their attitude will directly effect their success in life.

We hope that as parents, you will be involved in your child’s learning experience.  Throughout the year we will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, newsletters, and parent-teacher conferences.  We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

    Mrs. Folmsbee & Mrs. Jacobs
