    Welcome!

    Welcome to First Grade! My name is Michelle Horky, and I am beyond thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year. This will be my second year teaching first grade here at Hancock. I have been married for 20 years to my husband John, and have 3 children: Emilee (19), Natalie (17) and Ryan (14). Hancock is truly my second home--I spent 12 years as a Hancock parent while my children attended school here. I am very excited to continue as part of this community, this time as a teacher!

    My Education and Professional Background

    I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University (go Lumberjacks!). I have ten years teaching experience in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades in the Deer Valley Unified School District. 

    My Educational Philosophy

    I firmly believe that ALL students can learn and want to learn! It is my purpose to find the whatever methods necessary to meet their needs to help them find success. Children learn best in a safe and positive environment where making mistakes is accepted as part of the journey. Fostering a community of learners where children feel valued and cared about and are willing to take risks is my ultimate goal.
