• Hello! Here is a fun activity you can try at home:

    Composing a Song

    1. If you can print a sheet of staff paper from the computer, do that. You can also use notebook paper. Just trace 5 lines to use as the staff.

    2. On the left side of the staff draw either a treble clef or bass clef (low instruments play bass clef).

    3.  Next to the clef, draw 4/4 time signature.

    4.  Make 4 measures by creating bar lines. Put a ll or :ll at the end.

    5. Create a rhythm in each measure using notes and rests. Make sure there are 4 beats in each.

    6. Using one of the scales you know, play the first 5 notes in the scale.

    7. Choose the notes you want to use and combine them with the rhythms you created. The first and last note of your song should be the first note in the scale.

    8. Draw the notes on the staff with the rhythms.

9.Play your song! Maybe now you can create a title.

    10. Congratulations! You are a composer!
