WGA Commemorates Patriot Day 2021

  • Gilbert Fire, PD, and Mayor Brigette Peterson accepted our invitation to attend WGA's Patriot Day Commemoration, a student-driven event featuring students raising then lowering the flags to half-mast, the student body president leading the Pledge of Allegiance and moment of silence, a 5th grader playing the National Anthem on his electric guitar, Mrs. Nusbaum introducing dignitaries including our own Mr. Reed (32 years a first responder), Mr. Frye (32 years active in the US Marine Corps), and Mr. McCarrell (11 years with the US Air Force), followed by a 1st grade student reading a picture book about 9/11 that he wrote, a 6th grade student reading an original poem, and concluding with God Bless America. Students in grades 4-6 were present, and grades K-3 watched in their classrooms via a Google Meet. The campus is adorned with student-created work thanking our first responders, considering how America has thrived since 9/11/2001, and honoring those who lost their lives that day.
