    Welcome!

    Welcome to my page! Here is some information about me, the courses I teach, and my teaching philosophy. I am the Director of Orchestras, teaching students in Concert, Chamber, and Symphonic Orchestra in addition to teaching Guitar and AP Music Theory. Being a part of the Orchestra program is special, as there are a set of skills we stringed musicians have that allow us to create beautiful and challenging music in a variety of ways. There are many examples of the benefits participating in music classes have on student academic achievement, social skills, and self esteem. I enjoy working with music students, and hope that they will look back on their days being involved in high school orchestra as a fun and rewarding experience.

    My Education and Professional Background

    I have been teaching high school and college level orchestra for 23 years. In addition to teaching at Hamilton, I am the Director of Orchestras at Chandler Gilbert Community College. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance, a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and completed certificate training in Suzuki string pedagogy on both viola and violin. I am a conductor and adjudicator for various youth orchestras including AMEA and ABODA festivals and currently serve on the advisory board for the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. I enjoy teaching students of all ages, and have been a faculty member of the NAU Curry Summer Music Camp, Chandler Academy for the Performing Arts and Technology, the University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Music Academy, Scottsdale Community College Summer Music Camp, and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Summer Camp.

    My Educational Philosophy

    As an educator, my role is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn and grow. It is important for learning to take place in such an environment so that students are not only free to be themselves, but free to make mistakes and learn from them. In addition, I strive to instill a love of learning in my classroom, and to push students to work hard in every aspect of their lives. My favorite quote from a former music teacher is "I don't use students to make great music, I use music to make great students."
