    Welcome!

Education is very important and has given me opportunities I never would have otherwise. I love to read, discuss, and learn; I never get tired of getting ready to go to school. Additionally, I have been married for 42 years and have three beautiful daughters: Elise is a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Marcie graduated from SPU and is working in Seattle, and Kris is also making her own way here in the valley.

    My Education and Professional Background

I am a proud graduate of the University of Arizona as I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from there. My Master's degree is in Special Education for Gifted, and I am highly qualified to teach K-8 all subjects as well as social studies and history for grades 7-12. I have taught AP/Honors World History, AP Human Geography, AP US History and AVID. I also sponsor Fellowship of Christian HUSKIES and Model UN.

    My Educational Philosophy

Every student is given the opportunity to learn and thrive in a safe, welcoming classroom. Relationships are integral in supporting student learning as is personal responsibility. Many kinds of resources and various instructional methods will be employed to help each student be successful in class. It is important that these young adults are prepared to be involved positively in our community and our world. Taking an AP class is a great way to challenge oneself academically and show colleges that the student is serious about his or her education. An AP class on one's transcript signals stronger academic training, especially with high passing scores of 4 and 5 on the test. This class is full of SIMULATIONS and practical/PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING so that the student "BECOMES" part of the history that is studied.

It is my goal to be the best History teacher I can be. I expect it to be your goal to be the best student you can be. I will give you every opportunity to succeed. Let me know how we can best achieve our goals. I am looking forward to a challenging yet fun school year!
