Welcome!
Welcome, parents and students, to my class web page! As your English teacher, my main goals are to improve your critical reading and writing skills, to make literature meaningful, and to create a fun but challenging learning environment. I have been teaching for twenty-three years and am delighted to be teaching at Hamilton High School! This year I will be teaching AP Language and Composition and AP Seminar with African Diaspora content.
My Education and Professional Background
After receiving my bachelor's degree in English from ASU, I pursued my master's degree in education from NAU. I have taught all grades at the high school level. I have also taught first-year composition at Mesa Community College, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and Rio Salado College. I also serve as an AP Reader for the AP Language and Composition and AP Seminar exams.
My Educational Philosophy
My fundamental belief is that as a teacher, I face new challenges daily; and that with each new challenge I must act in a way that serves to open the minds of children to the power, confidence, and joy that knowledge can give them. My goal is to stretch my students so that they can reach further than they thought possible. I enjoy helping my students to see that literature is a study of the human experience, and that they can learn not only how to read and write, but they can also learn more about life and themselves in the process. I aim to prepare my students for success in college and careers by strengthening their reading, writing, and communication skills.
