About
Wortzel...
Bienvenidos! ¡Hola! My name is Jennifer Wortzel and I am excited to be a teacher at Basha High School and Basha AMS. This year I will be teaching Spanish 1 and/or 2 and serving as the Co-Advisor of the AMS Student Council. I am looking forward to a great school year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, etc. at wortzel.jennifer@cusd80.com as I am a firm believer in communication and working together as a team for student success.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated from the University of Virginia with B.A. in Spanish and American Government and then moved to University of Arizona for my M.A. in Education. I taught Spanish and ESL in Iowa for 4 years, Spanish in Gilbert for 10 years and now I am enjoying being a Basha Bear. In 2015 I was honored to represent the state of Arizona as the World Language Teacher of the Year, and I uphold the same standard every day in my classroom and career.
My Educational Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is that every student matters and can achieve success in my class with constant participation and meaningful practice. I love sharing the Spanish language and culture with my students by using fun and interactive activities, learning stations, comprehensible input, authentic materials, and real-world application when possible.
