- Common Questions
-
Here are some answers to common questions we receive at the start of the school year.
Please call the office if you have additional questions. 480-224-2100
- Questions about class schedules should be directed to your student's counselor. Please email them directly with any questions regarding classes, credits, seminary, etc. You can see who your student's counselor is and find their email address on the "schedules" page. Counselors will respond to emails as soon as they can, with priority given to upperclassmen.
- Athletics - questions regarding athletics and Register my Athlete can be directed to our Athletic Department at 480-224-2112.
- Bell schedule - The bell schedule has it's own page. You can print it out and tuck it in your binder.
- Block days have the same school hours (7:25-2:14), but have a different bell schedule. Wednesdays will be periods 1, 3, and 5; Thursdays are periods 2, 4, and 6. Block days allow for longer class periods and conference time. Many teachers will use the longer periods for things like exams, science labs or longer writing projects. Conference is about 25 minutes at the end of periods 1 (Wednesdays) or 2 (Thursdays) on block days. This time is used for many club meetings and students may also get tutoring/help from another teacher during that time. Passes are required. If you do not have a reason to leave your class during conference, you will stay in your period 1 or 2 class. Since there is no 4th hour on Wednesdays, your lunch schedule will be based off of your 3rd hour teacher once block days begin.
- Here is what the first few days of school will look like:
- July 17 - First day of school - periods 1-6
- July 18 - Periods 1-6
- July 19 - Periods 1-6
- July 22 - Periods 1-6
- July 23 - Periods 1-6
- July 24 - ODD BLOCK DAY - periods 1, 3, and 5
- July 25 - EVEN BLOCK DAY - periods 2, 4, and 6
- July 26 - Periods 1-6
- Lunch Schedules should be printed on your schedule this year! We will also post the list on our website and around campus by July 15th. Your lunch will be determined by your 4th period teacher and your 3rd hour teacher on Wednesdays/ "odd" block days.
- Closed Campus - Basha High is a closed campus school, meaning students may not leave school for lunch.
- School supply lists - Each class may have a different school supply need. Please bring just the basics on the first day of school. Teachers will communicate the supplies you will need to be successful in their class. You can also check the teacher's web page. Some teachers have supply lists posted already.
- Student ID Cards will be issued on picture day, August 14 and 15 during students' English classes. If you do not have an English class at Basha High, please go to the auditorium on your lunch break to have your picture taken and receive your school ID. Students are required to carry their ID with them at all times while they are on campus. IDs are also required to board the school bus. We recommend having students take a picture of their ID, so it is on their phone - and we all know they won't forget their phones in the morning.
- Transportation
- If your student will be driving and parking on campus daily, they will need to purchase a parking pass. Basha High will have assigned parking spots for students again this year. You MUST park in the spot number that correlates to your parking tag number. Parking pass applications are on our website - no paper applications will be available. You will be able to see your tag number in the parent portal once the parking pass application has been approved and the fee has been added. Security will check that cars have the required pass beginning July 29th. Parking passes are tags that hang from the rear view mirror, so if your student needs to take a different car for the day, please have them move their parking pass to the other car. Students may NOT park in the lot off Val Vista; that is for staff and library customers only. Students may ONLY park in their assigned spot in the student lot (near the football stadium). The spaces near the auditorium and K building are reserved for staff parking. Please understand that we have a limited number of spaces available for student parking, but we are working with the district office and the city to try to add more.
- If your student will be riding the bus to and from school: For the 24-25 school year and annually each year thereafter, eligible students will need to register for bus service. You can do this through the parent portal. Directions for bus registration and information on how to locate bus information in the portal are on the Bear Down Days website under 24-25 bus info. To be eligible for bus service, you may not be attending Basha on open enrollment and your house must be at least 1.5 miles away from Basha. Specific questions regarding bus transportation can be directed to CUSD's transportation department at 480-424-8600 or Routing. If your student will be riding the bus, they will want to look for their route number on the black sign next to the bus door when boarding the bus after school. Once student IDs have been issued, all students must show the driver their ID to board the bus.
- If you will be dropping off and picking up your student from Basha High, please use the loop off of Riggs Road or the circle near the auditorium. The loop off Val Vita (through the staff parking lot) is for AMS drop off only.
- Lunch accounts - CUSD uses www.myschoolbucks.com for student lunch accounts. You can view your student's account balance and their purchase history, recent payments, and schedule automatic payments online or in the app. You may also send your student to school with cash or a check to be deposited into their lunch account. Our cafeteria also allows students to make card payments for a small fee as long as the name on the card and on their school ID are the same.
- CUSD Calendar! Please follow the link or check the CUSD website for the calendar for 2024-25. CUSD 2023-2024 Calendar This will tell you when breaks and finals will take place. We encourage you to review the semester final exam schedules as you plan for upcoming vacations.
- Clubs - We encourage students to become involved in one or more of the clubs we have on campus. Have your student keep an eye out for our club fair, which will take place during lunches early in the school year. The club fair is an opportunity for students to see what clubs are available and ask questions of current members. If a student has an interest in starting a club that is not already offered, please have them see Ms. Taylor in the office. A list of last year's clubs can be found on our website.
- Senior Portraits - Please look for emails from our yearbook staff regarding Senior Portraits. Lou Coopey will be on campus on July 9th from 7am-noon to take yearbook photos FOR SENIORS ONLY. No appointment is needed for that. Lou Coopey will be on campus ONE LAST TIME for senior photos on September 12. Senior photos on campus will have a limited number of poses and no outfit changes, props or different backgrounds. If you are looking to schedule a photo session at the studio, please call Lou Coopey's All Pro at 480-830-5667. Students must be dressed to impress to have their senior photos taken, regardless if they have their pictures done on campus or at the studio. Seniors should get their senior photos taken by Lou Coopey by September 15th in order to appear in the yearbook.
- LINK Day - LINK Day is an opportunity for Freshmen and students new to Basha to familiarize themselves with our campus and have some fun! LINK day will be on Tuesday, July 16 from 7:30-11am, starting in the gym. If your student rides a bus, the buses will be running to take your students to LINK day and home when it's complete. Please wear tennis shoes and bring plenty of water.
- Library cards - We encourage all students to have a library card. Please visit the Chandler Public Library closest to you to obtain a card.
