This class will cover the introductory Mechanics-Newton's law, Conservation of Energy, Gravitation, Conservation of Momentum, Kinematics, Coulomb's laws and Ohm's law. In the first Semester the students will have to design a Science Fair-level experiment. The student will not have to perform the experiment, just research and design the experiment. An assignment packet will be given out. This is the 2012 packet. A one day field trip has historically been taken in the third quarter to Castles 'n Coasters at Metrocenter. The students take measurements and do calculations to see the reallife applications of Physics. Here are some pictures from previous trips. The final project in the 4th quarter is the creation of a Rube Goldberg machine. The students build a machine to do a simple task (turn on a lamp, flip a hamburger, dispense hand sanitizer, etc) and also do calculation for the steps as a review of the year. Here is the previous years. |
