Promoting Social Inclusion Through Sport

  • What is Unified Sports?

Unified Sports is a division of Special Olympics in which team-based sports are made up of individuals with and without disabilities training and competing together.  According to specialolympics.org more than 1.2 million people worldwide participate in Unified Sports.

How does Unified Sports work in the high schools?

Unified High School teams feature Athletes (students with disabilities) and Partners (students without disabilties) competing together against other local high schools.  Our teams wear school sponosred uniforms and play on the same fields as our varsity football, basketball, and track teams.  We also have a Unified Cheer team that supports our Flag Football and Basketball teams.

What other schools are involved with Unified Sports?

The Chandler Unified School District proudly supports Unified Sports on each of its high school campuses.  In addition to the CUSD schools, we compete against teams in Higley, Florence, Combs, and Coolidge.

What sports do you offer to Unified Athletes?

    Badminton (Fall)

    Flag Football (Fall)

    Soccer (Early Winter)

    eSports (1st and 2nd semester)

    Track (Late Winter/Early Spring)

    Basketball (Late Spring)

Cheer (Flag Football and Basketball seasons)

How do I join a Unified Sports team?

Whether you are an athlete or a partner, it all begins with an application.  The application will help us know which sports you are most interested in playing.  If you are an athlete you will be able to participate in at least two (if not more) sports.  Since we usually have more students sign up to be partners than we have space for, the coaches will conduct interviews and try their best to accommodate your top choices of sports.  We cannot guarentee a spot for every partner.

Once you are selected for a Unified Sports team all you need to do is fill out the necessary athletic forms online (Register My Athlete) and pay your athletic fee.

*We will be posting Athlete and Partner applications on our web site soon.  You can also pick one up from any of the coaches or in room D116.
