Foreign Exchange Program
Thank you for your interest in the Foreign Exchange Program at Hamilton High School. The Chandler Unified School District’s policy on Foreign Exchange students is as follows:
- The number of Foreign Exchange students cannot exceed 1 for every 500 students enrolled at any District high school.
- Potential students must not have graduated from their respective school systems.
- The Foreign Exchange student must attend the same school as the student(s) of the host family.
- High school diplomas will not be awarded. However, Foreign Exchange students are permitted to attend the graduation ceremony and receive a certificate of attendance.
- Sponsoring organizations must provide evidence that beach student has sufficient oral, writing and reading proficiency in English language.
- No financial assistance will be given to the student for class rings, activity cards, or lunches.
Hamilton High school is committed to giving Foreign Exchange students the best possible experience. Please follow these procedures for applying for admittance to Hamilton High School for your foreign Exchange student.
- Initial contact must go through our Foreign Exchange student liaison. You may schedule an appointment with the liaison through the HHS Guidance Dept. at (480) 883-5046.
- The organization you are using must be approved by and in the current Council on Standards for International Travel (CSIET) advisory list. The host family must live in Hamilton High School’s attendance boundary.
- A completed application packet from your Foreign Exchange agency must be submitted to the Foreign exchange liaison before a student is admitted. The packet must include detailed student information (including immunizations) and the host family’s residency information. Application packets are accepted up to May 1 of each school year. Once the packet has been turned in, an email or letter of receipt will be sent to you confirming that we have received your application. If there are any issues with the application, or if additional information is required, we will contact you.
- Once submitted your application will be reviewed by HHS administration. Since there are a limited number of students accepted into the Foreign Exchange program, applications are reviewed on a first come basis. There is no guarantee that your Foreign exchange student will be accepted at Hamilton High school. An email or letter will be sent to you informing you of our decision. If you are accepted by Hamilton High School, your application will then be sent to the district office for final approval. The district office will inform you of their decision by mail.
- If you are approved by the district office, the Foreign Exchange liaison will contact you to inform you of the registration process and set up a time and date to begin paperwork.
