- Incoming 9th graders
-
What classes am I required to take?
All 9th grades are required to take English, World History/Geography, Science, Math, and Physical Education.
-
Is Physical Education really a requirement since it is not a core class?
Since one Physical Education credit is required for graduation, and there are few electives for 9th graders, it is strongly encouraged that it be taken your 9th grade year. This will leave room for more choices later in high school. However, you may choose to do Marching Band, ROTC or Dance to satisfy your PE credit. ROTC and Marching band require 3 semesters to satisfy your 1-year PE credit.
-
What are my graduation requirements?
Refer to the course catalog. A minimum of 22 total credits are required for graduation in the CUSD.
-
Does Hamilton publish class rank/honors on transcripts?
As of 2019-2020, CUSD no longer ranks its graduates. Students may graduate Cum Laude (3.75-4.24 GPA), Magna Cum Laude (4.25-4.49 GPA) or Summa Cum Laude (4.5 and higher GPA).
-
Can I take Honors classes?
Yes. Honors courses are rigorous and may require additional time commitments in order to complete the necessary classwork and homework. Students do not have to test into most 9th grade honors or AP courses. Students must complete the pre- or co-requisites to take Honors Math or Science classes.
-
If I take an Honors Math class, do I have to take Honors Biology?
Yes. Likewise, if you choose to take Honors Biology you must take an Honors Math course.
-
Can I request a zero hour class?
Yes. Requesting a zero hour class does not guarantee placement in a zero hour class. Zero hour starts at 6:25 a.m., and you will need to provide your own transportation to school. Space is limited.
-
What is release time and do you offer it?
It is offered for the students who attend an LDS church. Release time is offered only 4th-6th hour. Release time does not count as a class and no credit is given. You must do a zero hour class, summer school or take a class at COA to meet the 6 credit bearing classes that are required.
-
Can I choose any elective class I want?
No. Many electives require a pre-requisite before they can be taken. Refer to the back of your registration form for available 9th grade classes, and to the course catalog that outlines course pre-requisites.
