A few things to consider in being part of an Honors program at the high school or AMS level.

*Being a successful Honors student does not mean that you have to be naturally gifted.  In fact, we have seen some success, but also unfortunate failure in students who rely solely on natural ability. Although being able to comprehend material easily helps, it is through a strong and solid work ethic that students succeed in any Honors program.

*Part of being in an Honors level course means that we will move fast, and you will be expected to apply concepts to more than one type of problem.  Being able to critically think through a problem and apply the content to many situations, rather than simply repeating what you are taught in class, is one of the key differences between an Honors Mathematics student and an On-level student.

*The expectation is that what you do, how you act, and what you produce is honorable.  You will be held to that standard.

*Expect assignments every day, even on weekends.  The only way to become truly good at something is through practice.  Your assignments are the practice in which you will have the opportunity to gain comprehension of challenging concepts.

*Expect to be challenged.  Please know, that just because you've "always earned an A" in previous math classes does not mean you will continue to do so when placed in a high school level or AMS Honors class.  The expectations and levels of accountability are different now.
