Hamilton High (2023-2024)
Hamilton Teacher Ran An was among four outstanding educators from the Chandler Unified School District who were honored with the prestigious Milestone Award by the United Chinese Association of Arizona (UCAA) and the Chinese Language Teacher Association of Arizona (CLTA-AZ). This award is a testament to their remarkable contributions to education in Arizona. Notably, among the nine teachers recognized statewide, an impressive four belong to the CUSD community: Ran An - Hamilton High School, Hongyu Yang - Tarwater Elementary, Linyong Yao - Tarwater Elementary and Hong Zhou - Tarwater Elementary. The Hamilton Boys Golf team has clinched the D1 State Championship, marking their remarkable 10th state title victory. Under the guidance of Coach Steve Kanner, the Huskies continue to showcase their excellence. Additionally, Angela Chen, representing Hamilton High, secured the title of Division I Individual Champion in Girls' golf.

Manasi Vegesna, a senior at Hamilton High School, recently achieved the publication of a children's book aimed at assisting students with immune disorders. Maya's Tiny Warriors: An Immunology Book for Kids, is tailored for children aged 4-8. By embarking on a journey alongside Maya's valiant warriors, young readers will gain a deeper comprehension of their immune systems and various illnesses.

Hamilton High School has the largest enrollment of international student in the district. Recently the students attended a welcome lunch in the HHS Career Center. In addition to being treated to some great food, the students met many of the important staff members available to help them throughout the year. Students in the picture have traveled across the globe to come to school in Chandler. Countries represented are: Brazil, France, Vietnam, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Austria and Japan.

Nikolas You made a monumental achievement over the summer. He set a new all-time world record at a powerlifting competition in Las Vegas on July 11 and brought home four gold medals. HAMILTON SOPHOMORE BECOMES MULTI-NATIONAL CHAMPION IN 2023 ROLLER SKATING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PENNSYLVANIA
Hamilton sophomore Olivia Lu recently won gold in the Domestic International event and two silver medals in the Freshman A and Junior Women Solo Dance events in the 2023 American Artistic Roller-Skating National Championships held in Pennsylvania, marking this year her fifth consecutive year as the national champion. Despite contending with older and more seasoned skaters, she emerged victorious among a large number of competitors, exhibiting the exceptional skills she has honed over her 11-year journey in the competitive arena. Congratulations to Olivia for her outstanding achievements!

GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Jackie Nedved of Hamilton High School played soccer for all four years at HHS, 2 on varsity, and in club. She is a kind-hearted and a generous person. She enjoys reading and hanging out with friends and family. She is a National Honor Society member and enjoys volunteering. She will be attending Clarke University in the fall, playing on their soccer team while pursuing a biology/pre-med degree as she hopes to pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Alayna Martinez of Hamilton High School has passion and talent in ballet. She has been dancing for about seven years. She has beauty on the inside and out. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Brooke Farabee of Hamilton High School is kind and generous to everyone she meets. She loves hanging out with her family, going to concerts, singing in choir, and watching Friends (she is a Friends' Trivia Master). Brooke has the best laugh! She loves watching EPL Football with her dad and keeps track of the games in her journal. Brooke won 'Student of the Month' and the 'Director's Award' for choir. She is involved with early childhood and volunteers at Risen Savior with the preschoolers. She works at CUSD Community Education's Kids Express. On her down time she loves to paint and draw. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Mariaha Richardson-Day of Hamilton High School was on the cheer team and cheered for 10 years. She is an early childhood graduate and EVIT graduate from the MA program. She also interns at a birthing center and works at Dutch Bros part-time. She loves traveling and works with horses every Sunday at a horse rescue in Cave Creek. She plans to continue with EVIT for their CNA program a requirement for a Nursing program. And then her internship offers a year of free school learning to help women give birth and be certified, then she will do an 18 month program and go into nursing to be a tram nurse. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Jahaziel Mejia from Hamilton High School likes to read and listen to music. Overcoming English as a second language and enrolling in high school mid-year, Jahaziel has managed a 3.6 GPA. He plans on attending Chandler-Gilbert Community College to work on an associate's degree in STEM, move on to a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering and finally work for NASA or Space X. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Rachel Remley from Hamilton High School is kind, compassionate, and reliable. She enjoys hiking, reading, playing board games and going on road trips. She may be shy initially, but she is also courageous and adventurous. She is a great big sister who has sister dates with her youngest sibling and always makes time for family and friends. She is close to obtaining her private pilot's license and works part time in a hospital kitchen, Rachel will attend Arizona State University Barrett's Honor College for Aviation Studies: Air Traffic Control and Business. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Jansen Herrera from Hamilton High School is able to successfully balance and excel at his education, work, family, friends, fitness, and gaming. Jansen was born in the Philippines. Upon arrival to the United States, everything in Jansen's life immediately changed dramatically: new country, new primary language, new neighborhood, new home, new school, new friends, etc. Hard to imagine being uprooted and landing in such a different world. We are so impressed by Jansen's seamless transition. He has embraced this new life and is taking advantage of all the opportunities it affords him. He is an amazing young man! GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Colin Ugalde from Hamilton High School loves fitness, travel and time with family and friends. He has always been a huge helper to those in need! He is a wonderful son, brother and friend. He has an extreme dedication to his health and fitness and has always had a hard working attitude! GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: Dorothy Holt from Hamilton High School loves spending her weekends baking new treats for friends and family, listening to music, watching movies (her favorite is Shrek) and playing video games. She sang in Hamilton's choir and participated in JROTC all four years of high school, and she attended Jacobson Elementary School and Bogle Junior High School prior to becoming a Hamilton Husky. On November 23, the Hamilton High School tennis courts were dedicated in honor of long-time tennis coach Phil Gonzales. Phil Gonzales dedicated thirty-eight years of teaching and coaching in the Chandler Unified School District. He worked at Willis Junior High School, Bogle Junior High School, Chandler High School, and the past twenty-four years were at Hamilton High School. Phil's love of coaching tennis has produced many individual and team champions setting the stage for a tradition of success which continues in the Hamilton program today. Congratulations to Hamilton High students who earned the AP Capstone Diploma or AP Seminar and Research Certificate during the 2021-2022 school year. The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are essential for academic success. To receive the AP Capstone Diploma, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and on four additional AP Exams. To receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research. Hamilton High's Air Force Junior ROTC program was recently recognized as a 2022 "Distinguished Unit, With Merit" by Headquarters AFJROTC. This is AFJROTC's highest-level unit award and the distinction places Hamilton's corps of cadets in the top 10% of the 870 AFJROTC units worldwide. According to the Director of Air Force Junior ROTC, Colonel Johnny McGonigal, "These awards recognize the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, contributions of the instructors as mentors, and the support of the school and local community. " During his presentation of the award to the cadets, Lieutenant Colonel Greg Franklin, Hamilton's Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, recognized their leadership and organizational skills which resulted in the unit receiving an 'Exceeds Standards' on their SY2022 triennial formal HQ inspection. He also commended them for their dedication to the school and community in amassing over 2,000 service hours during the school year.

Hamilton's AFJROTC instructors were recognized by the Director of Air Force Junior ROTC, Colonel Johnny McGonigal, as "Outstanding Instructors" for 2022. This award recognizes the top 10% of 1,800+ AFJROTC instructors worldwide. In a letter to the CUSD Superintendent and Hamilton High School Principal, Colonel McGonigal recognized the efforts of Lt Col Franklin and Hamilton's 20-year Aerospace Science Instructor, Master Sergeant Fred Driver: "These professional educators 'represent the 'Best of the Blue' we have in AFJROTC. Through this award, we honor their exemplary contributions and impact on their cadets, school, and community."

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Matthew Layne is one of the top 2% students who is graduating summa cum laude. He is an Eagle Scout and an AP Scholar with Distinction. He was a member of the Model United Nations, first as committee leader in 2019, then president. He was also the Spanish Honors Society president. He has a second-degree black belt in Kempo Karate, which he worked hard for over ten years to earn. Matthew will attend USC to study chemical/biomedical engineering before medical school. He was awarded a full-tuition waiver scholarship based on merit, and he was named a Verberti Engineering School Fellow as one of the top students entering the program. Hamilton High Senior Spotlights

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Christian Anaya was a three-year starter on varsity football and in his senior year alone accumulated numerous accolades including 1st Team 6A All-State, 1st Team 6A All-Conference, 6A Premier Region Offensive Player of the Year, AZ Varsity Preps WR of the Year, JD Hill Award for WR of the Year, Hamilton Team Offensive Player of the Year and 1st Team All CUSD. He held the HHS records for most receptions in regular season, most receptions in all games and most TD receptions in a season. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Sarah Tran flourished as a student in the World Language Department, enrolling in the highest level of Spanish offered, Spanish 7, while learning French and German on her own over the summer. With her fluency, Sarah led Huskies Unidos, a tutoring program for English Language Development students. She was a National Honor Society (NHS), Spanish NHS, and French NHS member. Sarah won writing awards including the Veterans of Foreign Wars nominee for the Voices of Democracy High School Essay Contest and the Space2Create Competition. She was the winner of the Lucy in Space Competition from NASA and ASU's Institute of Human Origins as a junior in 2021, and she was invited as a VIP to NASA's in-person viewing of the Lucy Satellite Launch in Cape Canaveral, FL in October 2021. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jordan Middleton is a dedicated student-athlete who leads from example and will be an asset to any higher education institution/athletic program. She stood out as a leader both on and off the court. Jordan's athletic awards are beyond impressive, athletic honors include but are not limited to: AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) All American 1st Team, 2021 All Conference Player of the Year, AZ Gatorade Player of the Year twice, and a number of both state and national honors. Jordan's volunteer efforts include working with various animal rescues, hospice, and various veteran's organizations. Jordan continues to give her time to multiple philanthropic organizations. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Sam Bregman is Vice President in Launch X (entrepreneurial skills club) and Zen Minds (a club teaching members positive mental health strategies and building a safe environment). He is also a Link Crew Group Leader and National Honor Society member. Sam is the Shoes That Fit in Chandler Chapter Founder. His main goal is to raise money through online donations and partnerships of businesses to provide new sneakers and socks to children in need from CUSD. This year Sam raised $14K to purchase 400 pairs of shoes and 2,000 pairs of socks for students at San Marcos Elementary School. Sam received the HOBY Youth Leadership Ambassador conference, Junior Achievement, Invest Write competition, Husky of the Month, and Character Counts Finalist awards plus four scholarships. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Michaela Lemberick was an AVID student for three years while maintaining a part-time job. She is an ACE (Achieving a College Education) scholarship recipient who completed 24 college credit hours during her high school career. Michaela joined the Arizona National Guard Reserve in January 2022 and is currently attending monthly drills. She will leave for Fort Jackson, South Carolina for basic training in July and on to Fort Lee, Virginia for Advanced Individual Training. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Micah Gryniewicz was a member of the girls varsity volleyball team for four years. She helped lead her team to back-to-back state titles. She was Premier Region First Team and CUSD First Team and CUSD MVP. Micah graduated at semester to begin her volleyball career at University of Alabama on a volleyball scholarship. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Jalen Lee is a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist. He is also an AP Scholar who will graduate summa cum laude. He played varsity basketball for three years (captain senior year), led the team to the 6A state finals as starting point guard and was selected as the 2022 Hamilton Scholar Athlete of the Year. He was also a member of National Honor Society and the Captain's Club. He participated in countless hours of volunteering with National Honor Society, Feed My Starving Children, Tempe Empty Bowls and the Captain's Club. He plans on studying finance as a distinguished member of the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University, then pursue a law degree. Hamilton High Senior Spotlights
