Student Responsibilities
This course produces The Hamilton High School yearbook. In this course, students will gain skills in the following areas: page design, publishing techniques, copy writing, editing, photography, record keeping, time management, teamwork, marketing, and leadership skills. Students are tasked with producing a timeless, creative, and innovative publication which will record our school’s community, memories and events. Students will produce a high-quality publication. Students will learn and use publishing industry terminology. Students will work with various types of technology to produce their publication. Students will apply computer skills and design principles to the production of yearbook pages. Students will learn copy writing techniques. Students will work as a team to meet deadlines.
Late work
Students are responsible for obtaining work they miss due to absences. Students have the number of days absent plus one to get the make-up work turned in. · In certain circumstances where a prolonged illness is involved, an extension of this limit may be arranged between student and teacher. · Exams missed are to be taken outside of class time within the make-up period and must be scheduled by the student. Failure to do the work within the designated time may result in a grade of zero. Deadlines in Yearbook are crucial to our success, if students do not meet our deadlines it will result in a zero.
Assessments and Assignments
Students will complete assessments during each unit of study to assess their understanding. Students will complete the CUSD Common Final at the end of the first and second semesters. The Common Final will count for 20% of the student's final semester grade in grades 9-12 and 10% in grades 7-8 (some exceptions may apply at the Junior High level). Common finals will be in ELA, Math, Science, Social Science, and World Language.
Final exams will be given during the CUSD Jr High/High School Early Dismissal days in December and May, as identified on the District Calendar.
If students are requested to participate in a survey, the survey questions will be provided to parents/guardians seven days before student contact.
