Student Expectations

  • PJHS STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

    Dear Panthers,

We have missed you, and we are excited to have you back on campus! We want ALL of our students to have a positive in-person learning experience and in order to do that we all have to commit to meeting school and safety expectations while on campus. While we want your school experience to be as “normal” as possible, we need each of you to recognize things have changed and we will be doing some things differently in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. Thank you for helping us do the little things that will make a big difference!

                                                                                                                                                                                 Mr. Bollard

                                                                                                                                                                                 Principal

    A FEW IMPORTANT REMINDERS

The coronavirus and COVID-19 have had a negative impact on a lot of people in our country and it has had a direct impact on many Payne families. As a school, we are going to be respectful of that.

    • Certainly not everyone who coughs or sneezes has coronavirus. We ask that you cough or sneeze, into your elbow and follow appropriate health protocols.
    • Intentionally coughing on others, touching others, or interacting in a way that might cause others distress (pretending to have COVID) will result in disciplinary action and/or a ten-day home isolation (or required negative COVID test). We are not going to joke about this illness or make comments that would be considered disrespectful or potentially harmful.

    BEGINNING YOUR DAY

    • Classes do not begin until 9:02 AM. Please plan your arrival accordingly.
    • Please bring a facial covering that covers your mouth and nose -- every day. You must wear your facial covering at all times while inside a building (except when eating), and whenever you are unable to social distance (like when talking to your friends).
    • When you arrive on campus, you may eat breakfast in the cafeteria or visit with friends if you are wearing your facial covering.

    WHEN THE BELL RINGS

    • Report directly to your first period class – be sure you arrive on time.
    • Your teacher will greet you at the door and you will be directed to apply hand sanitizer as you enter the classroom. Your facial covering must be on and worn appropriately.
    • Immediately take your seat and begin working on your warm-up or bell work activity.

    DURING CLASS

    • Keep your facial covering in place at all times.
    • Be respectful of the personal space of others. It is important that everyone keeps their hands to themselves and maintains appropriate distance from classmates.
    • Students will be allowed to use the restroom at appropriate times. You will be required to sign-out and back in each time you leave the room. Be sure to wash your hands in the restroom and use hand sanitizer when you return to class.
    • Follow directions, ask questions, and be actively engaged in learning. THIS IS WHY WE ARE HERE!

    PASSING PERIODS

    • NEW EXPECTATION: passing periods are for walking to your next class. Directional arrows have been placed to direct traffic flow.  Please follow the directional arrows when on campus.   If you are visiting, you will need to walk and talk – no congregating or standing in large groups. Remember, if you are not socially distanced you will need to wear your facial covering.
    • You may use the restroom, but please follow the limits on the number of students allowed in the bathroom at one time. Keep in mind that your teacher will allow you to use the restroom during class if needed.
    • Make sure you are arrive to class on time!

    LUNCH

    • Apply hand sanitizer as you enter the cafeteria
    • Follow the directions provided for waiting in line to order – keep your facial covering on and respect the personal space of others
    • Available seating will be marked off in the cafeteria – students should not be seated directly next to one another
    • You may visit in a quiet voice, but yelling in the cafeteria is not permitted
    • When you have finished, please clean-up after yourself and choose an activity you feel comfortable doing. There will be limits on the physical activities available, but you may listen to music, read, play video games, etc.

    AFTER SCHOOL

    • Students who walk to school are asked to please leave campus immediately.
    • Students who are picked up in the parent pick-up area are asked to please find your ride and leave campus immediately.
    • Students who ride the bus will be dismissed when the bell rings. Because this area can be crowded, you will need to wear your facial covering while waiting for the bus, unless you are at least six feet away from other people.
    • Unless students are staying for a school activity or tutoring, they will be expected to leave campus, or board their bus as soon as it arrives. Students may not “hang-out” after school.

We recognize that many of these expectations will be new and that school will not be the same as it has been in the past. However, with your help we will make this a positive experience and work together to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to feel safe, valued, and experience success.

    Thank you!

    Mr. Bollard
