Testing Resources
- PSAT/ACT/SAT information - general by grade level testing information. Which test, when and why for all college-bound students. Non-college-bound students should take these tests - just in case you want to attend college later on in life.
- ACT/SAT resources actual testing dates for each and test prep.
College Application Process
College Application Process - Explains the application process from beginning to end. Links are provided to the State Schools, Common App, and University of California App. Rule of thumb - If you are applying to the state schools - use their application process (the overall time to complete is shorter - no essay necessary). UC schools only accept applications from their own application process.
Paying for College/Trade School
Paying for College and Trade Schools: for many families, money for college is by far the most stressful subject of a student's senior year. You will find multiple resources to research and unlock opportunities for financial aid, scholarships, and other ways to help pay for college.
AZ 529 Savings: The Arizona 529 Plan is a state-sponsored college savings plan named after Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code. It provides an opportunity for parents, grandparents, or anyone else to save for a child’s educational dreams within a tax-deferred savings vehicle. I recommend reading up further about the benefits and how it works!
Grants and Federal Aid - The start of financial aid usually starts in October with FAFSA!
- FAFSA - Federal Student Aid - first step for students to get additional funds. The output of FAFSA provides students with 1) any grant (free money) to help offset the cost of college; 2) Federal workstudy - basically a job on campus through the university; and 3) student loans (subsidized or unsubsidized). This solely depends on the family financial situation.
Scholarship Information - This is the spot where work begins to help pay down the cost of attendance at college! No student should have debt. This is your job as a senior - recommended that you apply to 5 scholarships per month! Make sure to join the senior Google Classroom - as scholarship information is updated as we get them! Just a reminder that applications open and closed timeframes all differ. The scholarship "Season" runs from September to after graduation in May! Note - that many scholarships you can apply for year over year!
- Chandler Education Foundation - CUSD students have a resource that helps with scholarships for them in particular!
- IMPACT Scholar - If you signed up as a freshman and continue to meet the overall requirements - don't miss out on this scholarship!
- Flinn Scholarship - With the world-class education made possible by the Flinn Scholarship, you can become an agent of discovery, creativity and leadership who will make a difference. The Flinn Scholarship—valued at more than $120,000—covers tuition, fees, housing, and meals at one of Arizona’s public universities, plus study abroad.
- Baird Scholarship - The Baird Foundation offers four-year scholarships to exceptional students graduating from Arizona high schools every year. Over four years, the Baird Scholarship is valued at almost $100,000.
- Women in STEM - Scholarship resources for young women going into the STEM fields.
- Scholarship Websites - National and Arizona specific scholarship opportunities. Plus, you will find a handful of websites where you can search for scholarships to apply for!
- Going Merry is one scholarship site that can help you with obtaining scholarships - sign up at https://www.goingmerry.com/
- WUE/WICHE Program - Need discounts to help with out-of-state tuition?
- Each individual college you apply to will have a financial aid scholarship tool or website. That is the best place to find scholarships for each particular college you want to attend!
- Scholar Programs - Many of the programs are full ride, including tuition, room and board. They are typically offered by particular colleges and can be for any or specific degrees. Check them out!
- ROTC Programs - ROTC is a college program offered at more than 1700 colleges and universities across the US that prepares young adults to become officers in the US Military.
