Finals are upon us! You must be here on the final days--there are no early finals. If you must be absent on the final day, a parent must call in to excuse you. Then, the teacher will issue a failing grade and post. When we come back January 7th--you have 2 weeks from that time to speak with your teacher and schedule the make-up exam. It is imperative that you do not wait for the teacher to speak with you as they have posted and are moving on to the semester 2 curriculum. Study the review packets well that you will receive from the teachers, go in for additional tutoring as needed. Quarter 1 percentage is 40%, quarter 2 percentage is 40%, and the final is 20%. Your transcript will be posted before January 7th--check it out in your portal to make sure you agree with all the grades posted. This will be your first semester reported to the colleges, so it truly does matter. We wish you great success!
Are you aware that your student may qualify for a diploma seal? These applications begin in the freshman year so please go to the CUSD website: Teaching and Learning: Curriculum and Instruction: Diploma Seals. As of now, there are 4 seals a student may earn for their diploma. Each seal has its own requirements, so please read carefully. Some have deadlines for intent to participate coming very quickly so please don't procrastinate. The first quarter grade reports are now in Infinite Campus. Speak to your teachers with any concerns. Remember, you must pass all 6 classes in order to earn an early release senior year!
Freshmen units were August 28 and 29 in the auditorium. If you do not have an in person English class please click here to view the power point.
The most common thing that freshmen do that leads to a rough year is they don't keep up on the HW. Do your HW, come to school daily, and all should be great in your world!
Please don't wait until you are feeling lost before you reach out. You should look at your grades every Wednesday in Infinite Campus. If you see a discrepancy, talk to your teacher immediately. Every Friday we want you to feel safe with the grade you are earning and viewing in IC.
Get involved and be your best you this year! It is a great time to be a bear!
Can't get into IC?

Parents can view their schedule in the Infinite Campus portal and students were sent an email giving them a temporary ID. We strongly recommend parents print off grades every Wednesday to share with their student and then again on Friday to ensure any missing work was made up.

Helpful HintsSummer school is a great way to replace a failing grade or do grade improvement. Students may also wish to take physical education or comprehensive health to open up their schedule for more elective opportunities. Counseling strongly recommends retaking Algebra 1 for any advanced 8th graders that are not earning a solid A with out retakes so they have a smooth transition into Honors Geometry. Counseling also recommends taking 1.0 credit of physical education for students who want to participate in more than two electives their freshman year. Counseling also recommends taking comprehensive health in summer school so during the sophomore year this does not get in the way of full year elective choices. Summer school costs approximately $181 per semester with a 2 semester limit for courses.Neat Backpack!Neat bedroom!Complete all HW--the number one problem Freshmen experience is low grades due to HW!Be present! Attendance is the number one key to your success.Be on time! Your tardiness interrupts the learning of others, so please remember to be kind.If you are absent have a parent call Attendance at 480-224-2103, request missing work from teachers the next day you are present, and make up all missing work within the allotted time frame. For every consecutive day of an excused absence you have one day to make up all missing work.Go to sleep before 10 PM daily!Get involved!Do not post anything on social media that you cannot tell your parent about or that could hurt your chances of employment. For your generation social media is a permanent timestamp. Do not text or email anything you would not say in person. Always remember texts and emails have no tone of voice so be cautious how others may perceive what you are writing.
