• How can a parent better assist their student in being organized?

    • A clean room is a better environment for studying.
    • Purchase a nice bulletin board and hang it on the wall behind your student's door.  Students can hang important notes and a calendar on the board.
    • Note cards are essential for terms, vocabulary, and formulas. Check out Quizlet!
    • Tutoring is available with teachers.  Please see the teacher website or Google Classroom for tutoring schedules.
    • Log into the parent portal every Wednesday, print off grades, highlight grades in question and ask your student to speak to the teacher and have all missing work in by Friday.  It is recommended you have consequences for incomplete tasks as well as rewards for achievement. Always feel free to email the teacher using their cusd80.com email to ask about work you are not seeing graded.
    • Email teachers directly with questions.  Teachers will respond within two working days. If you do not hear from the teacher by day 3, email the counselor to help you communicate. Please use the teacher's @cusd80.com email.
    • Math homework is notoriously the biggest hurdle for a student in high school.  Organization is the key.  Students need to copy the beginning problem onto a second sheet of paper, show all steps, check all work on the paper. The teacher will need to see the work in order to best assist.
    • Make a word document or an Excel spreadsheet and keep track of PSAT, ACT, and SAT scores.
    • For volunteer hours, use the Impact Scholar volunteer tracking sheet located in the IMPACT folder on this site.
    • Sign up for email and text alerts for school-wide information by going to the Basha main site.
    • Accept your counselor's Google Classroom invite and view it weekly for important items. If your student does not see an invite please email their specific counselor.

And remember parents, even though your student is beginning to look like an adult, they still need your direct intervention and guidance.  Stay vigilant and stay the course until graduation day!
