Welcome!
I am looking forward to a great year as a member of the Puma Nation. I am excited to be teaching AP Language and Composition and Honors English 10. I will be using Google Classroom for daily agendas and missed assignments. You may use the links on the left to access the syllabus and other important documents/links.
My Education and Professional Background
I am a graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in Public Relations. After a few years in the business world, I returned to college to earn my secondary teaching certification with an emphasis in English from Arizona State University. I continued my education at Northern Arizona University where I received my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. I began my teaching career in 2002 teaching Language Arts at Willis Junior High School. In 2008, I made the jump to high school, teaching English and Newspaper at Chandler High School. I have now been a proud member of Puma Nation since 2015. I live in Chandler with my husband Mike, who is also an educator, and my amazing children, Steven and Sydney.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that reading and writing are the foundational skills that allow students to become a productive member of society in an ever-changing world. As an English teacher, it is my job to give students the skills and tools necessary to communicate effectively in a variety of educational and social settings. I believe that it is not just my job to get students to look at a text or a piece of writing in a certain way, but instead, it is to get them to consider the multiple perspectives needed to approach the work. Only then will students be able to think critically and communicate effectively.
