    My Education and Professional Background

    I obtained a bachelor of Science in Education for Secondary Education English through Northern Arizona University (Go Jacks!). Born and raised in Arizona, I am proud to give back to my community as a member of the Puma Nation.

    My Educational Philosophy

    My educational philosophy is that the classroom is a space where all students are welcome, all students are accepted, and all students have the ability to succeed. Building connections with students fosters kindness, empathy, and community in the classroom setting.

    I believe that teaching literature means diving deep into the various ways the books and other texts we read can connect to students' lived experiences. By finding the relevance to students' lives and their communities and making text-to-self and text-to-world connections, students find higher motivation to engage with the material. True critical thinking and critical reading skills are developed in this way. Learning happens when a student forms a critical connection with the material.
