    Welcome!

Welcome to Casteel High School! My name is Mrs. Cathy Culver and I am thrilled to be part of your student's educational experience. I am married and we have one son. I began my teaching career at Chandler High School in 2000 before coming to Casteel High School; before that I worked at Valley Recycling Inc. as a Recycling Coordinator for two years. Teaching is a passion of mine and I am honored and thrilled to be your student's teacher this year.

    My Education and Professional Background

I was born and raised in Minnesota. I received my BA from the UW-Madison in Geography and Environmental Science & my teaching certificate at the University of Phoenix, my MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern AZ, as well as participated in the Science & Math Pathways program & the GK-12 program from ASU. I am trained in teaching inclusion, AVID & an AP/IB instructor. I have been teaching since July 2000. Some of the subjects I have taught are Advance & Core Earth & Space Science, Investigative Science, 10th & 11th grade AVID, Core, AP & IB Environmental Science, & AP Human Geography. I have experience in public speaking at state inclusion conventions, leading staff development in-services on inclusion teaching, writing state standard crosswalks for CTE & Science education, as well as experience in district standard writing. I have served roles as a Department Chair of Science for 2 years at Chandler High & as an Academic Coach at Casteel High for 2 years.

    My Educational Philosophy

I see myself as a facilitator of learning that provides enriching activities in an effort to enhance my student’s strengths and which will work on strengthening their weaknesses. I encourage students to embark on a journey of discovering and learning for themselves and to get excited about sustainability and our place in nature both on a scientific level as well as a social science level.
