Course Description
In English 11 students develop more advanced ELA skills in the areas of writing, reading, speaking, and listening, in order to prepare them to engage in work or college experiences beyond high school. Students will research and analyze information, culminating in a formal academic research paper. They will also write narrative, literary analysis, and argumentative essays, give presentations, and learn to communicate with others in an effort to also develop critical thinking skills that are essential to their success in the future. As a junior, students read works of American literature, which often form the backbone of writing assignments. Literary conventions and stylistic devices may receive greater emphasis than in previous courses. Students also prepare to take the English and Reading sections of the ACT test in the spring of their junior year.
