    Welcome!

Casteel Girls Flag Football played as a club sport attached to Casteel for the first two years. Last year’s season was our first AIA season. Casteel's team in a short span of time of existence has won the 2022 Spring Girls Flag Championship. We are looking forward to this year’s team as we have a lot of seniors and talent to showcase.

    My Education and Professional Background

Message from head Coach Rae Black:

“My name is Rae Black, and I am a 10th/12th-grade high school English teacher. Education is essential to me, as I have earned a bachelor's and two master's degrees. I am a mother of a 2024 Casteel graduate who will be attending a University in Chicago on an academic and athletic football scholarship.

I am one of the founders of the Casteel girls flag program, which started as a club team with Coach Beamon. I helped the AIA create our first rule book bringing a woman's point of view. Put on Cardinals camps, Army Bowl Combines and Fiesta Bowl events for girls in our state. This past year Casteel had 5 young ladies receive college flag football offers. The program has achieved success, making it to the championship our first season and winning a spring championship our second season. Before teaching in public schools, I taught at a cosmetology school for nine years. I also currently work part-time as a flight attendant for American Airlines for the last 20 years while teaching in the Chandler Unified School District for the last four years, starting at Casteel. I have experience in women's flag football from playing at the intramural level in college. From 2018 to 2022, I owned a non-profit youth tackle league in the East Valley called SEV, providing administrative and financial assistance to families and creating opportunities for children to learn and play football. I survived my league through covid and decided to focus solely on the HS girls flag. I am dedicated to mentoring young women, promoting diversity through school clubs, ACT prep, and recruitment education. I advocate for young women in sports and work on projects to support them in Arizona. This upcoming season will mark my fourth season in three years, and I am eager to continue supporting the girls and developing a strong program.”

The Choice is Yours! Why Choose Casteel High?

Casteel girls Flag Football was one of 6 six high school teams to start girls flag football in the state of Arizona under the leadership of our district athletics director. Girls flag football provides young ladies the opportunity to play flag at the collegiate level and now as far as playing in the Olympics. As this new sport grows so does its opportunities.
