Casteel High School encourages excellent attendance. Student attendance closely matches student academic achievement. Students receiving a failing grade consistently have a high number of absences and tardies. Developed procedures are intended to involve parents, teach students responsibility, and provide for optimum instruction and academic accountability.
***Please contact the Attendance Line (voicemail) open 24/7 to report a student's absence. The Parent/Guardian has 24 hours to excuse an absence. Please leave the following information:
- Student's first and last name
- Student's school ID number
- Date of absence(s)
- Reason for absence
- Your name and relationship to the student
- Your telephone number
Below we have outlined our policies designed for the safety of our staff and students.
Please feel free to call or email with any additional questions or concerns.
We hope you have a great year!INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Chronic Absenteeism
Pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute - ARS 15-802/15-803, students who exceed an absentee rate of 10% are considered truant, even if the absences are excused.
A student who accrues 10 or more absences – even though they may be excused – will result in notification to the district truancy officer who may require that all future absences be validated by a doctor’s excuse.- Absences are absences. Whether unexcused or excused, students are out of class.
- Students may not receive credit for unexcused absences. Teacher discretion.
- Parents should call within 24 hours of a child's absence, otherwise absent may be considered unexcused.
- A student exceeding 10 absences in a class per semester may lose credit for the class.
- Student and guardian must be notified of possible consequences after 7 absences.
Homework Requests:
Students that have missed three or more days of school can request homework by contacting teachers via email. Click here to see faculty pages and contact information.
Sign Out Policy:
Parent/guardian must sign students out in the Attendance Office and show picture ID in order to pick up student. Anyone other than the parent/guardian picking up student must be listed on the emergency information and 18 years of age or older. Students will not be called out of class until parent/guardian has signed student out with proper identification.
Student Drivers:
Casteel High School is a CLOSED CAMPUS
If a student driver needs to leave for a previously scheduled appointment, you must follow the following steps. Have your student bring a hand written note to attendance before school. The note needs to state the date and time the student needs to leave and if the student will or will not be returning to school. Please sign the note. When attendance receives the note, we will call the parent to verify that the parent wrote the note. If we cannot get a hold of the parent, the student will not be allowed to leave. Attendance then writes the student a pass to be released from class at the time they are needing to leave. The student needs to come sign themselves out at attendance. We will then call security to alert them that the student has permission to leave.
If a student driver is ill, they MUST go to the nurse. The nurse will make arrangements with the parent if the student needs to be released.
Release of one student to leave campus with another student (other than sibling) is prohibited.Tardies:
In order for a student to be excused from class when he/she is late to school, the student must check in at the attendance desk to be signed in. The attendance office must receive a phone call within a 24 hour period from a parent/guardian. A note from the doctor’s office, dentist office or court system will also excuse a student in lieu of a parent calling.
