• Late work drops one letter grade. Assignments are divided into the following categories and weighted.

40% Expressive Assignments: These are the things that students sign for me. The assignments are based on the vocabulary we are working on at the time. Students have plenty of class time to work on these assignments and get my help before they are due. However, they should practise them, along with their vocabulary, at home daily.

20% QuizzesWe take weekly quizzes over fingerspelling, vocabulary, and numbers. We also take grammar quizzes 3 times per quarter.

30% Receptive Assignments: These are things that I sign for students or students watch on DVD and translate.

10% Daily Classwork: These are the class activities that provide students with the opportunity to practice the language so that they will be able to sign and translate more effectively. Most of the time, if a student participates fully, s/he will earn full credit. Sometimes these assignments are graded for quality. Usually, if a student is absent, s/he will not have to make up these assignments.

Assignment Completion Grade: Students start with 100 points in this grade. Many times students are given an assignment that will be used to practice the language. These assignments are worth completion points. If the work isn't done, the student isn't able to participate fully. In addition, I use my voice to teach ASL, but there are many activities in which students must turn off their voice and rely on the target language to develop expressive and receptive skills. One of these activities is our fingerspelling warm-up... students are expected to only use ASL during this activity. If a student doesn't complete an assignment or uses voice during no-voice activities, points will be deducted from this grade.

Grade Concerns: If you have questions about a grade in Infinite Campus, it is your responsibility to fill out the "I have questions about my grade" sheet below or stop by and see me after school. Fill out the form completely and correctly, then submit it to me and I will look into the issue and return it to you by the next class session. There are just too many students and too many things going on during class for me to deal with past grade issues. I am happy to look into the situation, but cannot do it during class. Thank you for understanding.

Students get the grade they earn. This is a dual credit college level class. No extra credit is available in this class. Students are expected to do the classwork assigned.

Assignments in ASL are awarded points and then grouped into the following weighted categories:
