- Absences and Late Work Policy
-
Absences: Perry policy is that work missed due to unexcused absences cannot be made up. However, many parents forget to call in and excuse absences. Therefore my absent/missing work policy is twofold:
- If an absence is EXCUSED and the student is absent on the day an assignment is assigned, the student has the same number of days gone to make up the work. If not completed by that time, the work will be considered late and worth 60% credit.
- If the student was aware of the assignment, s/he is expected to have the assignment ready when s/he returns. If not, the student will have 1 week from the due date to submit the work for late credit. (60%)
- If the absence is UNEXCUSED and the student was aware of the assignment, s/he is expected to have the assignment ready when s/he returns. If not, it will be considered late and will be worth 60% credit.
- If the assignment was assigned while the student was absent, s/he has ONE WEEK to make up the work. After one week, the ZERO will stand in the grade book.
All absent work is uploaded to Google Classroom or placed in the class box on the back wall.
Late Work: The student is present in class, but the assignment is not completedI grade work that is turned in on time. I understand that MOST parents do not know American Sign Language and cannot assist their students at home. I give students more than adequate time to complete assignments in class where I am available to help them. If they do not use their class time wisely, they must use their study time at home wisely. If they do not, their grades will suffer. If a student is in class the day the assignment is due, but does not have the assignment, a ZERO will be posted in the grade book. Students may make up late work for ONE WEEK, but the assignment will be worth 60% credit. If a student misses work the last week of a quarter, they have the first week of the next quarter ONLY to make up that work. When late work is submitted, students put it in the class box on the wall in the back of the room. It MUST have the appropriate header, so I know what assignment it is AND it MUST have the DATE the student was absent written at the top of the page by the header. If it is not submitted in this format, I will not know to check Google Drive for it, and it will not be graded. If you have questions or concerns regarding this policy--perhaps you do not have a printer or internet access--please contact me as soon as possible, so I am aware of the situation and can work with that student appropriately. In addition, students are expected to print their own assignments at home--do not email assignments to me expecting me to print the assignment. Students can print in the school library.
